The present invention provides an enclosed lead storage battery comprising a plate assembly consisting of a positive plate, negative plates and a separator, an electrolyte held in position by the plate assembly, and a jacket made of film- or sheet-formed synthetic resin and surrounding the plate assembly and electrolyte. The jacket is of a multilayer laminate structure made by disposing a polyolefin film on the inside contacting the plate assembly and laminating a film of thermoplastic synthetic resin in two or more layers on the outside thereof. According to the present invention, the plate assembly can be encased with an unexpensive jacket of a simple construction, and the joint of the jacket to the pole posts of the plate assembly is strengthened to offer a leak-proof enclosed lead storage battery.

A display medium employing a diffraction grating to define and represent a display pattern by the contour thereof, which enables the display pattern to move smoothly as the visual point moves and which allows the display pattern to move in various ways and is easy to produce. A display pattern ("DNP"), e.g., a character, an image, etc., is defined and displayed by the outer or inner contour of a diffraction grating (A or B) composed of a group of smooth curves, or a diffraction grating composed of a group of partial straight-line diffraction gratings that form polygonal lines linearly approximating smooth curves. Accordingly, as the visual point is moved relative to the display medium, a position that looks bright by diffraction moves smoothly and variously. If the display medium is illuminated by white light, the region that looks bright becomes a rainbow-colored region. Accordingly, the display pattern becomes not only readily recognizable but also interesting to view. Thus, display and design effects become extremely excellent. By varying the configuration of curves, the motion of the region that looks bright can be changed variously. Also disclosed is a method of producing a diffraction grating assembly for the display medium.

This invention relates to a container with a metallic cover, including a container body having a plastic flanged portion and a metallic cover provided with a peripheral edge which is roll-seamed around the flanged portion. A method of manufacturing the container is also disclosed. The method includes the steps of applying as a coating a heat sealing compound onto an inner surface of the peripheral edge of the metallic cover, roll-seaming the metallic cover around the flanged portion of the plastic container body, and fusing the flanged portion and the peripheral edge by heating to mutually secure the flanged portion and the peripheral edge of the metallic cover. An apparatus for manufacturing the container is also disclosed. The apparatus includes a cavity structure provided with an upper edge portion upwardly extending from an upper end of an outer periphery of the cavity structure, a plug for pressing a plastic sheet into the cavity, and a clamp for abutting against the upper edge portion of the cavity for clamping the plastic sheet.
