摘要: A host library controller employs a plurality of ports for establishing a plurality of communication paths from the host library controller to a medium changer library. The host library controller further employs a processor and a memory storing instructions for the processor to issue a command from a medium changer command set, and to select one or more of the ports for communicating the medium changer command to the medium changer library depending on a command processing status of each port.

摘要: A method and apparatus for testing the resistance of armature commutator connections and the resistance values of individual windings uses a pair of independent constant current sources connected across opposite pairs of armature windings through their respective commutator bars. The constant current sources are identical in output current and are connected in opposite polarity to minimize circulating current flowing in other windings of the armature. The voltages developed across windings adjacent the two current sources are combined and are a function of the resistances of the connections between the windings and the commutator bars. The voltages across each constant current source represent the resistance of the winding to which it is connected.

摘要: A cable communication system (100) where a control unit (110) sends operation parameters to subscriber units (130) and the subscriber units (130) respond by modifying the method of communication. Also, the subscriber units (130) send messages which include information on the subscriber unit (130) and the capabilities of the subscriber unit (130). Furthermore, the control unit (110) efficiently manages the system 100 by monitoring the capabilities and instructing the subscriber units (130) on-how to communicate on the system (100). Such management allows for the migration of subscriber units (170) from one service area (140) to another (190) without the disruption of service. In addition, initialization of subscriber units (130) may be accomplished over the cable and does not require an operator at the subscriber location.

摘要: A method to assign one or more new storage construct names to one or more logical volumes using an operator input station capable of communicating with a virtual tape system, where that virtual tape system includes a plurality of existing logical volumes and a database which includes a plurality of logical volume records. The method first defines one or more new storage construct names, associates one or more storage actions with each of those new storage construct names, and saves the new storage construct names and the associated storage actions in the database. The method then enters, using the operator input station, a range of logical volumes, selects one or more new storage construct names, associates those new storage construct name to the range of logical volumes. The method then determines if the range of logical volumes comprises existing or new logical volumes. If the range of logical volumes comprises existing logical volumes, then the method modifies the logical volume records for that range of logical volumes to include the new storage construct names. If the range of logical volumes comprises new logical volumes, then the method creates new database records for that range of logical volumes comprising the new storage construct name.

摘要: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for displaying health spatially and temporally. A status module records a health status for each of a plurality of components at a plurality of temporal instances, wherein the health status instances are recorded in a history file. An interconnection module records interconnection relationships for the plurality of clusters in a resource file. A display module displays a system graphical representation comprising a graphical representation for each of the components, each interconnection relationship for the components, a health status for each component, and a transitional health for each component. The system graphical representation is for a specified temporal instance. The transitional health portrays a change in health status over a plurality of temporal instances.

摘要: In a line for coating a ferrous base metal strip with a molten coating metal, the line being of the type having a preparation furnace for the strip comprising a direct fired furnace, a controlled atmosphere heating furnace, one or more cooling chambers and a snout leading beneath the surface of the molten coating metal bath, all in sealed relationship to each other, the improvement comprising a method and means for maintaining a non-oxidizing atmosphere at positive pressure within the entire preparation furnace during line stop. To this end, a retractable, refractory lined door means is provided in the conduit between the direct fired furnace and its exhaust fan to seal off the direct fired furnace from its exhaust fan and an air dilution opening in that conduit. Additionally, means are provided to add excess nitrogen flow to the preparation furnace to maintain a positive pressure therein. Thus, during a line stop, the refractory lined door will be shifted from its normal retracted position to its position sealing off the direct fired furnace and the means for adding excess nitrogen will be actuated to maintain a positive pressure within the entire strip preparation furnace of the metallic coating line.
