Abstract:
A method to operate a controller for exchanging information corresponding to a public safety incident is provided. In operation, the controller transmits a request to communication networks to send location information for portable communication devices operating in a region of interest. The controller, based on the location information received from the communication networks for the portable communication devices, selects a subset of portable communication devices. The controller assigns each device in the subset to a trusted group of devices or a non-trusted group of devices based on the respective subscriber profile and operating characteristics of the portable communication devices. The controller then establishes a connection with high priority portable communication devices in the trusted group via a public safety communication network to exchange information corresponding to the incident.
Abstract:
An RFID tag reading system and method estimate true bearings of RFID tags associated with items in a controlled area. A plurality of secondary receive beams are rotated in a cycle about a boresight axis of a primary receive beam to generate a plurality of secondary receive signals. A controller processes all the secondary receive signals received in the cycle to estimate a true bearing for each tag in the controlled area.
Abstract:
An antenna includes a ground support, an electrically conductive, endless element mounted at a distance relative to the ground support, and a trio of ports arranged along the endless element for conveying radio frequency signals in an operating band of frequencies. The antenna is compact and has high port isolation and low pattern correlation due to successively spacing the ports apart along the endless element by a spacing of one-half of a guided wavelength at a center frequency of the operating band.
Abstract:
An antenna (100) with an embedded wideband matching substrate (102) is provided. The substrate (102) comprises impedance matching circuitry (300) providing a low frequency (LF) matching circuit (330) and a high frequency (HF) matching circuit (340) for tri-band operation. A stripline (314) having a stripline ground (324) is disposed on the substrate. The stripline (314) provides a matching element and the stripline ground (324) provides a common ground (324) for both the HF and LF matching circuits. The substrate (102) is shaped with a tabular portion (106) which facilitates encasing the substrate (102) within a casing (118). The tabular portion (106) further provides an alignment feature for wrapping of a flexible radiating element about the casing and flexible antenna rod (126) to complete the antenna structure (100).
Abstract:
A communication system (100) provides a body wearable garment (102) having a single transmission line (104) for interfacing a main control device (110) to a variety of supplemental devices (108). The single transmission line (104) provides a series of couplers (106) integrated along the line to wirelessly couple the plurality of supplemental devices (108) with the main control device (110). The plurality of supplemental devices (108) are insertable and removable to pouches (114) within the garment, the pouches providing alignment of each supplemental device with a corresponding coupler of the single transmission line (104). Near field wireless power transfer coupling and/or RF signaling are provided. A wide variety of devices can be optimally located along the single transmission line (104) within the garment allowing for considerable improvement of in hands-free portability.
Abstract:
An antenna enables compact and robust multiband operation of portable radios. According to some embodiments, the antenna includes: a first rolled conductive strip having a first section with overlap between successive turns of the first conductive strip and a second section with no overlap between successive turns of the first conductive strip, the first section having an insulating layer between the overlapping successive turns of the first conductive strip; a second rolled conductive strip; and a flexible sheet to which both the first conductive strip and the second conductive strip are bonded.
Abstract:
Radiated elements are embedded in in a touch panel that includes a plurality of layers including at least one conductive layer and at least one silver layer. The plurality of layers are configured a stack up configuration. The touch panel also includes a border region around the perimeter of each of the at least one conductive layer and the at least one silver layer. The border region is configured to function as an electro static discharge protector and all portions of the border region are configured to house an arbitrary pattern of antennas
Abstract:
An antenna array, especially for use with a radio frequency identification reader, includes a ground plane and a pair of concentric, first and second, circular elements mounted at an elevation relative to the ground plane. First ports are arranged along the perimeter of the first element, and second ports are arranged along the perimeter of the second element. Each port conveys radio frequency signals in an operating band of frequencies. Each perimeter is substantially equal to an odd multiple of one-half of a guided wavelength at a center frequency of the respective operating band. Each adjacent pair of first ports, or adjacent pair of second ports, is successively spaced apart by a spacing constituting a whole multiple of one-half of the guided wavelength at the center frequency of the respective operating band. A polarized patch antenna may be positioned within the circular elements.
Abstract:
A method, mobile station, and user-based communication system are provided that determine that a mobile station intends to transmit over an uplink, determine whether the mobile station is being operated in a body-worn position, determine an uplink transmit power scale factor, and when the mobile station is being operated in a body-worn position, apply the uplink transmit power scale factor to an uplink transmit power to produce a scaled uplink transmit power. In one embodiment, the user-based communication system includes the mobile station and an audio accessory and determines whether the mobile station is being operated in a body-worn position based on a determination of whether the audio accessory is actively engaged.
Abstract:
A communication system and method are provided to conduct waterway searches for the detection and identification of objects and the generation of law enforcement agency alerts and pre-approved external agency notifications. A water body surveillance apparatus, under control of a law enforcement agency, surveys above and below a water surface to detect objects and collect data pertaining to the detected objects. The communication system identifies the detected object and generates an alert to the law enforcement agency identifying the object. A notification is sent to pre-approved external agencies based on object type. The pre-approved external agencies may include other law enforcement agencies different from the law enforcement agency and non-law enforcement agencies, such as pre-approved insurance agencies, and vehicle repossession companies, environmental agencies.
