An image forming method uses a light-sensitive material and an image receiving material. The light-sensitive material comprises a support and a light-sensitive layer provided thereon. The light-sensitive layer contains silver halide, a reducing agent, pigment particles, an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable compound and a base precursor. The silver halide, the reducing agent, the pigment particles, the polymerizable compound and the base precursor are contained in microcapsules dispersed in the light-sensitive layer. The image forming method comprises imagewise exposing the light-sensitive material, developing the light-sensitive material to polymerize the polymerizable compound, and pressing the light-sensitive material on the image receiving material to transfer the pigment particles to the image receiving material. In the present invention, the light-sensitive material is pressed at a pressure in the range of 20 kg/cm.sup.2 to 500 kg/cm.sup.2 while heating the light-sensitive material at 30.degree. C. to 130.degree. C. The light-sensitive material and the image receiving material are usually pressed by rollers. At least one of the rollers facing the light-sensitive material preferably is a heated roller, and the light-sensitive material is heated by the heated roller. The diameters of the rollers are preferably in the range of 5 mm to 40 mm. The support of the light-sensitive material is preferably made of a polymer film. The thickness of the polymer film support is preferably in the range of 5 .mu.m to 50 .mu.m.
