Thermoplastic elastomer compositions having improved processabillity while maintaining good physical properties are prepared from a mixture of olefinic rubber and a polypropylene composition having a melt flow rate in the range of from about 0.5 to about 5 dg/min. and a molecular weight distribution Mw/Mn of greater than 5.5 up to about 20. The rubber component of the mixture may be at least partially cured by dynamic vulcanization.

Plastic toughened plastics include a polymer composition having a polypropylene component and a second polymer component. The polypropylene component is present in an amount from about 50 to about 95 weight percent based on the total weight of the blend. The second polymer component is present in an amount from about 5 to about 50 weight percent based on the total weight of the blend, is a BOCD or BCD blend of at least two ssPE components, and has an overall density greater than about 0.90 g/cm3. Optionally, the plastic toughened plastics include one or more third polymer component selected from propylene-olefin elastomers and ethylene-propylene rubbers, which are present in an amount from about 1 to about 50 weight percent, based on the total weight of the blend.

Embodiments of the present invention include a composition formed from (a) 50 wt % to 85 wt % of at least one impact copolymer relative to the total weight of the composition, the impact copolymer comprising up to 25 wt % of an ethylene-propylene rubber, the rubber having a content of ethylene-derived units of from 40 wt % to 60 wt % relative to the rubber; and (b) 50 wt % to 15 wt % of at least one plastomer relative to the total weight of the composition, wherein the plastomer is a copolymer of ethylene derived units and at least one of C3 to C8 α-olefin derived units from 5 wt % to 30 wt % of the plastomer. The composition is useful for automotive components, especially interior automotive components such as airbag covers, the composition having a secant flexural modulus of at least 50 kpsi (345 MPa) and 100% ductility down to −40° C.
