摘要: This invention provides an inventive tissue sampling probe which offers many advantages over probes available in the prior art. Unexpectedly superior results are obtained in connection with the retrieval of intact tissue specimens, because of a unique combination of cutting features, including, for example, the employment of an electrosurgical cutting element and a vacuum assist in one preferred embodiment. A particularly important feature of the invention is the ability to manipulate the electrosurgical cutting element to cleanly sever the distal end of the tissue specimen. In certain embodiments, this is accomplished without any cutting impact on surrounding tissue. The versatility of the invention permits its use in many applications, including, for example, breast biopsies, laparoscopic surgery, and lymphadenectomy procedures.

摘要: An implantable marking device is provided which is designed to percutaneously deliver permanent markers to desired tissue locations within a patient's body, even if the desired locations are laterally disposed relative to the distal end of the delivery device, as is the case for conduit or cavity walls. This provides several advantages to the physician in diagnosis and management of tissue abnormalities, such as a means of localization of a tissue abnormality for follow-up surgical treatment, and a means of tissue abnormality site identification for purposes of ongoing diagnostic follow-up. In one preferred construction, a radiographic clip is configured in the form of a surgical staple. A disposable tissue marker applier, which comprises a flexible tube, pull wire, and squeeze handle, is employed to advance and deploy the clip to a desired tissue location. Either a flexible or a rigid introducer is also provided for providing access to the site to be marked.

摘要: A lens case for storing an intraocular lens contains a housing for storing an intraocular lens and a support member configured to support the intraocular lens. The support member includes a plurality of jaws, the jaws having a closed configuration for holding the intraocular lens and an open configuration for releasing the intraocular lens. The lens case further comprises a passage formed when the jaws are in the open configuration, the passage including an opening in the lens case for transfer of the intraocular lens into an intraocular lens inserter. The lens case may further comprise an intraocular lens that is disposed between the jaws, the intraocular lens comprising an optic and a haptic coupled to the optic. The lens case may be configured to maintain the haptic in either a first position in which a distal portion of the haptic is disposed farther from the optic or a second position in which the distal portion of the haptic is disposed closer to optic. Preferably, the lens case is configured to provide the second position during transfer of the intraocular lens into an inserter and/or inserter cartridge.

摘要: Apparatus for delivering brachytherapy to a target tissue region includes an elongate body including a proximal end, a distal end sized for introduction into a tissue tract and carrying a plurality of elongate members including pathways for receiving a source of radiation. The elongate members are movable between collapsed and expanded configurations. During use, a tract is created through tissue, and the elongate body carrying the elongate members is advanced through the tract into a target location with the elongate members in the collapsed configuration. The elongate members are directed to the expanded configuration at the target location, and radiation is delivered to treat tissue at the target location, e.g., by introducing one or more radiation sources along the pathways.

摘要: The present invention describes a means for fixing skin care ingredients on the surface of non-woven webs and cellulosic mats. The active ingredients can be released (deposited) onto the skin by normal triggering mechanisms, which include the action of water or urine or by friction or rubbing. The fixative systems described herein provide the ability to control high load levels while not interfering with the wettabliity of the fabric or paper. Additionally, incompatible/reactive ingredients can be treated onto the same web and are kept as separate particles fixed to the surface until released.

摘要: A cartridge for delivering an intraocular lens into the eye of a subject that comprises a body disposed along a longitudinal axis having a distal end and a proximal end, and a tapered lumen disposed along the longitudinal axis having an aperture at the distal end of the body. The aperture and at least a portion of the tapered lumen each consist of an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portions of the aperture and lumen each have a first width and a cross-section that is generally arcuate. The lower portions of the aperture and lumen each have a cross-section that is generally horizontally disposed and have a second width that is greater than the first width of the aperture and lumen. The cartridge may be loaded with an intraocular lens using a packaging system. The intraocular lens may be placed into the eye of a subject using a corresponding inserter having a pushrod with a saddle disposed at the tip thereof. The intraocular lens is preferably draped over the saddle during insertion.

摘要: An insertion system is provided for delivering an intraocular lens into the eye of a subject. The insertion system comprises an inserter for delivering the intraocular lens and a lens case for holding the intraocular lens prior to delivery. The inserter comprises handpiece having a longitudinal axis, a proximal end, and a distal end. The inserter further comprises a nosepiece disposed at the distal end of the inserter, the nosepiece having a rotational axis that is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and a load chamber with a transfer interface for receiving the intraocular lens. The lens case has a transfer port for transferring the intraocular lens from the lens case into the load chamber. Once the intraocular lens is transferred into the load chamber, the nosepiece is adapted to rotate approximately 180 degrees about the rotational axis between a first position for loading the intraocular lens and a second position for delivering the intraocular lens into the eye.
