There is disclosed a prepreg including noncircular cross-section carbon fibers and a matrix resin having a flexural elastic modulus of 2.7 GPa or more and a water absorption of 3.4% or less under hot-wet conditions after curing; and another prepreg including carbon fibers and a matrix resin having an open-hole compression strength under hot-wet conditions and a compression strength after impact under room-temperature conditions of a quasi-isotropic material after curing of each 275 MPa or more. Carbon fiber-reinforced composite materials produced by curing these prepregs are excellent in open-hole compression strength under hot-wet conditions and in compression strength after impact, and can be suitably used especially as an aircraft primary structure material.

A porous electrode substrate for fuel cell and a process for producing the same, which contains 35 to 60% carbonized resin by weight, and has pores with a mean pore size of 20 to 60 .mu.m and a porosity of 60 to 80%, and a compression ratio of 20% or less. Chopped carbon fibers with fiber lengths of 3 to 20 mm and fiber diameters of 4 to 9 .mu.m are dispersed in random directions within substantially 2-dimensional plane, and bound with an organic binder to make an carbon fiber mat. The carbon fiber mat is impregnated with a resin to make prepreg and hot pressing the prepreg under a temperature of 120.degree. to 200.degree. C. and a pressure of 2 to 10 kg/cm.sup.2. Then, the press molded product is carbonized by heat treatment under a temperature of 1300.degree. to 3000.degree. C. in an inert atmosphere or in vacuum to obtain an electrode substrate excellent in various characteristics such as gas permeability, flexural strength, compression strength, etc. Further, for improvement of electroconductivity, it is preferable to use a mixture of a curable resin and a non-curable resin as the resin impregnated into the carbon fiber mat.

Provided is an oxide superconductor in which superconducting layer is sandwiched between two blocking layers having different compositions. Available superconducting layers include a one-layer system having one Cu-O.sub.2 sheet, a two-layer system having a mediating layer sandwiched between two Cu-O.sub.2 sheets, and a three-layer system having mediating layers sandwiched individually between three Cu-O.sub.2 sheets.Since the blocking layers are of different compositions, seventy-seven kinds of oxide superconductors can be obtained.

Disclosed are a novel therapeutic agent for cancer such as esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, a method for predicting the prognosis of cancer, and a method for detecting, or predicting the prognosis of, cancer such as esophageal squamous cell carcinoma using a sample that can be collected less invasively. The therapeutic agent for cancer comprises as an effective component an antibody that undergoes antigen-antibody reaction with FGFRL1 to suppress the growth of cancer cells, or an antigen-binding fragment thereof. The method for predicting the prognosis of cancer comprises investigating the expression level of FGFRL1 in a cancer tissue separated from a living body, and, in this method, a high expression level of FGFRL1 indicates poor prognosis. The method for detecting cancer comprises measuring FGFRL1 or a fragment thereof extracted from a body tissue, or FGFRL1 or a fragment thereof in blood separated from a living body, and, in this method, a higher concentration of FGFRL1 or the fragment thereof contained therein than the concentration of FGFRL1 or the fragment thereof in the tissue or blood of a healthy individual indicates the presence of cancer.
