    Abstract: According to examples, a depth sensing apparatus may include an illumination source to output a light beam onto a polarizing beam separation element (PBSE). The PBSE may generate a right hand circularly polarized (RCP) beam and a left hand circularly polarized (LCP) beam to be projected onto a target area, in which the RCP beam and the LCP beam may create an interference with respect to each other. The depth sensing apparatus also includes an imaging component to capture an image of the target area with the RCP beam and the LCP beam projected on the target area, in which the captured image is to be analyzed for depth sensing of the target area. The depth sensing apparatus further includes a polarizer that may increase an intensity of the interference pattern.

    Abstract: A system includes a display element configured to output an image light. The system also includes an image combiner configured to guide the image light toward an eye-box region of the system. The system also includes a dimming device disposed at a side of the image combiner. The dimming device includes a dimming material layer including a mixture of liquid crystal (“LC”) molecules and dye molecules, and pretilt angles of the LC molecules and the dye molecules are configured with a predetermined variation in at least two opposite in-plane directions from a center to two opposite peripheries of the dimming material layer.

    Abstract: A device is provided. The device includes a first polarization hologram element having a first operating wavelength band and configured to selectively backwardly diffract or transmit a first light associated with the first operating wavelength band based on a polarization of the first light. The device also includes a second polarization hologram element having a second operating wavelength band and stacked with the first polarization hologram. A thickness of the first polarization hologram element is configured based on a signal-to-noise ratio between a diffraction efficiency of the first polarization hologram element for the first light and a diffraction efficiency of the first polarization hologram element for a second light associated with the second operating wavelength band being greater than a predetermined value.
