The thickener compositions comprise an associative polymer with an associative monomer content below 10% by weight, based on the weight of the polymer, a weight average molecular weight below one million and an acid monomer content of at least 10% by weight, based on the weight of the polymer.

    摘要: A composition comprising particles which comprise a core material within a polymeric shell, wherein the core material comprises a hydrophobic substance, in which the amount of the polymeric shell forms at least 8% of the total weight of the particles, wherein the polymeric shell comprises a copolymer formed from a monomer blend which comprises, A) 5 to 90% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated water soluble monomer, B) 5 to 90% by weight of a multifunctional monomer, and C) 0 to 55% by weight other monomer, and wherein the amount of the polymeric shell and the proportions of. A, B and C are such that the particles exhibit a half height of at least 350° C. The invention includes a process for the manufacture of particles and the use of particles in articles, such as fabrics, and coating compositions, especially for textiles.

    摘要: A pourable liquid composition comprising water, a water soluble or water swellable organic polymer, comprising 25 to 90 mole % monomer or monomers selected from the group consisting of C8-C30 alkyl ethoxylated (meth)acrylates, C8-C30 alkyl ethoxylated (meth)acrylamides, C8-C30 alkyl (meth)allyl ethers and C8-C30 alkyl ethoxylated (meth)allyl ethers, an organic water miscible liquid selected from the group consisting of C1-5 alcohols, C3-5 ketones, C2-5 esters and C2-5 ethers, characterized in that the organic polymer is present as discrete particles of average diameter size of below 10 microns. A process of imparting water resistance to the components of a cable said process by first contacting one or more of said components of a cable with said pourable liquid composition, and then assembling the components to form the cable. The composition is particularly suitable for protecting optical fibers within a fiber optic cable against the ingress of water.

    摘要: A composition comprising particles which comprise a core material within a polymeric shell, wherein the core material comprises a hydrophobic substance, characterized in that the polymeric shell comprises a copolymer formed from a monomer blend which comprises, A) 30 to 90% by weight methacrylic acid B) 10 to 70% by weight alkyl ester of (meth)acrylic acid which is capable of forming a homopolymer of glass transition temperature in excess of 60° C. and C) 0 to 40% by weight other ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The core material can comprise an active ingredient selected from the group consisting of UV absorbers, UV reflectors, pigments, dyes, colorants, scale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, antioxidants, pour point depressants, wax deposition inhibitors, dispersants, flame retardants, biocides, active dye tracer materials and phase change materials. The composition has the advantage that the polymeric shell is highly impermeable to the core material even at elevated temperatures.

    摘要: Aqueous solutions of acrylic acid polymers are prepared by polymerization of acrylic acid in a feed operation with a free-radical initiator in the presence of hypophosphite in water as solvent, by a process comprising (i) initially charging water and optionally one or more ethylenically unsaturated comonomers, (ii) continuously adding acrylic acid in acidic, unneutralized form, optionally one or more ethylenically unsaturated comonomers, aqueous free-radical initiator solution and aqueous hypophosphite solution, and (iii) adding a base to the aqueous solution on completion of the acrylic acid feed, wherein a comonomer content does not exceed 30% by weight and the aqueous hypophosphite solution is added during a total feed time made up of three consecutive feed time spans ΔtI, ΔtII, and ΔtIII, wherein the average feed rate in the second feed time span ΔtII is greater than the average feed rates in the first and third feed time spans ΔtI and ΔtIII.
