摘要： A method and composition facilitating the inspection of structural surfaces, such as fuel tank walls, to identify or locate cracks, flaws and other defects. The composition is a system of materials including a dye-containing penetrant material and a chemiluminescent material which reacts with the dye in the penetrant material. The method involves application of the two materials sequentially such that they react chemically to produce light which is visible to the naked, unaided eye, thereby eliminating the need for electrically-powered or "hot" light.

摘要： A method and apparatus for transferring energy to a gas by means of a glow discharge. A transmission line is charged to a voltage of approximately twice that of the steady-state voltage of the glow discharge. A prepulse voltage source, having a higher voltage sufficient to initiate the glow discharge, is first connected to the discharge electrodes. After the discharge is initiated by the prepulse, the transmission line is connected and transfers its energy to the discharge. In a second embodiment, the transmission line is replaced by a capacitor.

摘要： An apparatus for providing controlled flashes of radiation, including a handpiece within which is mounted a gaseous discharge tube and a light pipe for conducting the radiation, enabling it to be directed into an oral cavity to effect in situ curing of radiation polymerizable resins used as dental restoratives. The apparatus further includes electrical circuitry for producing a train of a fixed number of relatively constant intensity flashes each time a switch is closed, and for disabling the apparatus after the flash tube has been discharged a predetermined number of times, thereby preventing unsatisfactory performance resulting from a fall-off in intensity due to aging of the tube.

摘要： A reflecting device providing a flashing reflection of light incident on the device toward an intended observer includes a converging Fresnel lens for receiving light directed onto the device and for focusing the light within the focal plane of the lens, through which plane a reflector is periodically moved to intermittently reflect the light. In one embodiment, the reflector is positioned to retroreflect the light back through the lens toward an observer positioned adjacent the source of light. In another embodiment, the reflector is positioned to reflect light transmitted through a first Fresnel lens toward another Fresnel lens so as to be visible by an observer of the other lens.
