Abstract: A connection device for computing devices is described. In one or more implementations, a connection device comprises a plurality of connection portions that are physically and communicatively coupled, one to another. Each of the plurality of connection portions has at least one communication contact configured to form a communicative coupling with a respective one of a plurality of computing devices and with at least one other communication contact of another one of the connections portions to support communication between the plurality of computing devices. Each of the plurality of connection portions also includes a magnetic coupling device to form a removable magnetic attachment to the respective one of the plurality of computing devices.

Abstract: A canvas (e.g., a digital page or sheet of paper) on which a user can input data is displayed on a display device of a computing device in response to the canvas being invoked. The canvas can be invoked in different manners, such as by the user activating a switch or button at an “eraser” end of a stylus that mimics a pen/pencil configuration. The user can input any digital data such as notes, drawings, and so forth on the canvas that he or she desires. In response to the canvas being dismissed (e.g., by the user again activating a switch or button at an “eraser” end of a stylus that mimics a pen/pencil configuration), display of the canvas ceases. The digital data input by the user is saved or otherwise processed by the computing device.

Abstract: Binding techniques are described that are configured to bind an apparatus for operation with a computing device. A computing device may include one or more object detection sensors that are configured to detect proximity of an object, a wireless communication module configured to support wireless communication, and one or more modules implemented at least partially in hardware. The one or more modules are configured to perform operations that include recognizing a first event as involving detection of proximity of an apparatus by the one or more object detection sensors, recognizing a second event as involving receipt of a wireless communication by the wireless communication module from the apparatus, and responsive to the recognizing of the first and second events, causing the apparatus to be bound for operation with the computing device such that the apparatus is configured to initiate one or more host side commands of the computing device.

Abstract: An intelligent assistant device is configured to communicate non-verbal cues. Image data indicating presence of a human is received from one or more cameras of the device. In response, one or more components of the device are actuated to non-verbally communicate the presence of the human. Data indicating context information of the human is received from one or more of the sensors. Using at least this data one or more contexts of the human are determined, and one or more components of the device are actuated to non-verbally communicate the one or more contexts of the human.

Abstract: A first intelligent assistant computing device configured to receive and respond to natural language inputs provided by human users syncs to a reference clock of a wireless computer network. The first intelligent assistant computing device receives a communication sent by a second intelligent assistant computing device indicating a signal emission time at which the second intelligent assistant computing device emitted a position calibration signal. The first intelligent assistant computing device records a signal detection time at which the position calibration signal was detected. Based on a difference between 1) the signal emission time and the signal detection time, and 2) a known propagation speed of the position calibration signal, a distance between the first and second intelligent assistant computing devices is calculated.

Abstract: Touch-sensitive bezel techniques are described. In one or more implementations, a computing device includes touch sensors in a display portion of a display device and in a display capable bezel portion of the display device. The touch sensors can detect a touch input, and based on one or more characteristics of the touch input, a likelihood that a user intends or does not intend to interact with the computing device can be determined. A location of a centroid of the touch input is one such characteristic that can be utilized. In at least some implementations, the display capable bezel portion has display capabilities such that when a touch input is detected, the display capabilities in a region of the bezel portion can be activated, such as to display a menu in the region of the bezel portion of the display device.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a cover glass having a display surface, a pixelated photoemitting element array, and a pixelated photodetecting element array. The pixelated photoemitting element array emits a light signal through the cover glass to the display surface. The pixelated photodetecting element array is positioned relative to the pixelated photoemitting element array and the cover glass to receive a reflected light signal. The reflected light signal includes a portion of the emitted light signal reflected by total internal reflection from a refractive boundary at the display surface. Operation of each pixel is switched between the one or more photodetecting elements and the one or more photoemitting elements by the pixel selector signal component received from the pixel selector signal bus. A sensing trigger is configured to trigger the imaging scan by the pixelated photoemitting element array and the pixelated photodetecting element array, responsive to detection of an initiating action.

Abstract: Conductive trace routing techniques for display and bezel sensors are described. In one or more implementations, an apparatus includes display sensors, bezel sensors, and a plurality of conductive traces. The display sensors are configured to detect proximity of an object and are arranged in conjunction with a display area of a display device to support interaction with a user interface displayed by the display device. The bezel sensors are configured to detect proximity of an object and are disposed in a bezel that at least partially surrounds the display device and is outside the display area. The plurality of conductive traces are disposed between the display and bezel sensors and communicatively couple the display sensors and the bezel sensors to one or more computing components that are configured to process inputs received from the display sensors and the bezel sensors.
