摘要:
A cryoprotectant for use with a treatment device for improved removal of heat from subcutaneous lipid-rich cells of a subject having skin is provided. The cryoprotectant is a non-freezing liquid, gel, or paste for allowing pre-cooling of the treatment device below 0° C. while preventing the formation of ice thereon. The cryoprotectant may also prevent freezing of the treatment device to the skin or ice from forming from moisture seeping out from the skin. The cryoprotectant may further be hygroscopic, thermally conductive, and biocompatible.

A system for reducing subcutaneous lipid-rich cells or tissue of a subject is disclosed. The system may include a fluid supply, a probe in fluid communication with the fluid supply, and a coolant circulated between the fluid supply and the probe. The probe may be configured to be inserted into the subject to be at least proximate to the subcutaneous lipid rich cells. The coolant may be at a temperature such that the subcutaneous lipid-rich cells or tissue proximate to the inserted probe are cooled.

Home-use applicators for non-invasively removing heat from subcutaneous, lipid-rich cells via phase change coolants, and associated devices, systems and methods. A device in accordance with a particular embodiment includes an applicator releasably positionable in thermal communication with human skin, and a coolant vessel having a coolant. The device further includes a heat transfer conduit operatively coupled to the applicator and housing a heat transfer fluid that is isolated from fluid contact with the coolant. A heat exchanger is operatively coupled between the coolant vessel and the heat transfer conduit to transfer heat between the heat transfer fluid and the coolant, and a fluid driver is operatively coupled to the heat transfer conduit to direct the heat transfer fluid between the applicator and the heat exchanger.

A filling device for connecting a dispensing instrument having multiple fluid reservoirs to multiple containers is disclosed. More particularly, the present invention discloses a connecting device capable of coupling the individual reservoirs of a dispensing instrument to multiple fluid containers. The apparatus includes a body, a collar extending from the body, a plurality of tubes in fluid communication with a plurality of inlet ports formed in the body, and a hood adapted to simultaneously receive a plurality of containers therein. The containers are positioned within the hood to allow the plurality of tubes to simultaneously and separately draw fluid from the fluid containers and transferring the material into the individual reservoirs of the dispensing instrument.

A sealant applicator suitable for dispensing a coagulable sealant, for example a two-component fibrin sealant mixed in the applicator, employs impulse clearing to remove residual coagulated or coagulating material from the dispensing pathway and mixing chamber, if present. Impulses may be generated by manual application of a clearing member such as a plunger which can enter into the dispensing pathway to engage, dislodge and discharge residuals or can generate a gas impulse to impact the residuals to similar effect. A clearing valve having a clearing port can be operated by movement of the clearing member to provide access to the dispensing pathway.

A spray applicator particularly suited to needs of surgeons for dispensing a multi-component fluid, for example fibrin and thrombin components of a tissue adhesive. The spray applicator having a spray nozzle, a liquid dispensing aperture, a spray plate to be impacted by the liquid dispensed and a gas nozzle to provide a stream of carrier gas to carry the dispensed liquid away from the spray plate to form a spray.

Apparatus and method are provided for reducing processing time for aligning two parts by machine vision. The prior art approach of utilizing a substrate (b 14) with two spaced-apart targets (16a, 16b) and a top-plate (10) with two primary alignment openings (b 12a, 12b) spaced apart the same distance as the targets is improved by providing a set of fiducials (a pair of secondary openings (18a, 18b) or a pair of marks (18'a, 18'b) on the surface) in the top-plate. As a consequence of the novel approach, the vision system is not confused by the similar reflectivities of the target and the top-plate as the substrate and top-plate are brought into contact. Accordingly, alignment may be readily rechecked after assembly.

摘要:
A treatment device for removing heat from subcutaneous lipid-rich cells of a subject having an actuator that provides mechanical energy to the tissue. The mechanical energy provided may include a vibratory component that can range between low and ultra-high frequencies, and such energy may include various combinations of two or more frequencies tailored to produce the desired effect on the subcutaneous tissue. Disruption of adipose tissue cooled by an external treatment device may be enhanced by applying mechanical energy to cooled tissue. Furthermore, such mechanical energy may impart a vibratory effect, a massage effect, a pulsatile effect, or combinations thereof on the tissue.

Methods are provided herein for affecting a region of a subject's body, comprising exposing the region to a cooling element under conditions effective to cool subcutaneous adipose tissue in said region; and increasing the blood flow rate to the cooled tissue by exposing the tissue to an energy source. Methods are also provided for treating subcutaneous adipose tissue in a region of a subject's body, comprising exposing said region to a cooling element under conditions effective to cool said tissue; and exposing the tissue to an energy source to increase the blood flow rate to the cooled tissue, thereby stimulating reperfusion in, and/or causing an ischemia-reperfusion injury to, the cooled tissue.
