摘要: A polymeric coating composition chemically grafts to cellulose or synthetics, and the resulting product serves as a filter in a filtration system which keeps the filtered liquid or gas clean by removing soot, solids, liquids and other contaminants, thus maximizing the life of equipment or engines. The coating is developed using chemical grafting that involves the use of monomers, prepolymers, catalysts, a graft initiator system and/or other ingredients. The resulting coating is used to treat cotton, other cellulose materials, synthetic materials and combinations thereof, and provides for graft-polymerization, thereby forming a polymeric film which is chemically bonded to the cotton fiber, other cellulose fibers, synthetics or combinations thereof with excellent adhesion, thereby imparting all the desired properties to the fiber in terms of increased filtration efficiency.

摘要: A silicone coating material is operative to graft a silicone polymer coating on an ignition wire. The ignition wire includes an insulated conductor with an inner conductive core and an outer insulating jacket layer which has an outer surface. The silicone coating material is applied to the outer surface of the insulating jacket layer and includes a silicone prepolymer, a coupling agent, a catalyst, and a graft initiator. The graft initiator is operative to prepare the outer surface of the insulating jacket to receive by grafting the coating layer including the silicone prepolymer and the coupling agent, and the catalyst is operative to promote grafting by polymerization of the coating layer.

摘要: A coating formulation for application to surfaces associated with combustion, such as fuel injectors, and surfaces subjected to elevated temperatures, such as fuel supply components, to prevent the deposition at high temperatures of carbon or graphite on such surfaces, such as stainless steel and alloyed steel compositions. The coating formulation forms a thin layer of polymer coating on the surface by chemical grafting involving the use of a graft initiator to create active bonding sites, on the metal surface, for the silicone-based prepolymer to undergo polymerization on the metal surface. The bonding and polymerization are completed in a single application process without using complex equipment. The coating and process helps surfaces associated with combustion and surfaces subjected to elevated temperature reduce carbon or coke formation at temperatures up to 700° F. and thereby improves the durability and performance of those surfaces.

摘要: Polymerized salts of polymerizable anionic monomers with cationic germicides are chemically grafted onto activated carbon in a manner to form a permanent, covalent bond thereon. The grafting of such germicides onto the activated carbon imparts permanent bacteriostatic properties thereto and the resulting bacteriostatic activated carbon can be used for the purification of drinking water over prolonged periods of time. The passage of contaminated water across this activated carbon chemically grafted with the polymerized salt of the cationic germicide results in purification of the water which remains free of elevated bacteria counts often associated with "first flush" effluents. Mere absorption of such or any germicide into the pores of the activated carbon results in desorption and leaching out of the germicide into the effluent.

摘要: The invention relates to the chemical bonding of a polymer or polymers onto a non-metallic substrate such as cellophane by contacting the substrate with a grafting solution that contains monomers, prepolymers, catalysts and possibly other ingredients, to obtain graft polymerization onto the substrate with intimate bonding of the polymer onto the substrate surface, and curing the polymer on the substrate by microwave, laser or ultrasonic energy. The invention provides a method where the bonding of the polymer is effected solely by physical rather than chemical means by eliminating the use of silver nitrate in the pretreatment step and using microwave, laser or ultrasonic energy to polymerize the monomers and binding the resulting polymer to the substrate, with the resulting grafted polymer having the same characteristics as if the bonding was effected chemically with silver ions or colloidal silver.

摘要: The invention relates to the chemical bonding of a polymer or polymers onto a non-metallic substrate such as cellophane by contacting the substrate with a silver nitrate solution followed by treatment with an alkali hydroxide such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, whereby particles of silver or silver oxide are uniformly distributed in situ throughout the surface of the substrate, contacting the thus treated substrate with a grafting solution that contains monomers, prepolymers, catalysts and possibly other ingredients, to obtain graft polymerization onto the substrate with intimate bonding of the polymer onto the substrate surface, and curing the polymer on the substrate by microwave or laser energy.
