Abstract:
Example method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments are disclosed for configuring a mobile wireless hotspot in a wireless network. Example embodiments of the invention include a method comprising: establishing, by a mobile hotspot device, a control channel with a wireless device, using an out-of-band communications connection in an out-of-band communications medium; and exchanging, by the wireless device over the control channel, with the mobile hotspot device, by at least one of transmitting or receiving in-band communications connectivity configuration information to enable power saving features and optimize activity times in an in-band communications tethering connection with the mobile hotspot device in an in-band communications medium, for relaying by the mobile hotspot device, communications between the wireless device and one or more entities in at least one of a wide area communications network and a wireless local area network provided by the mobile hotspot device.
Abstract:
A technique for providing service data is provided. According to an example embodiment, the technique comprises operating, in a user apparatus, a first wireless communication portion for short-range wireless communication and a second wireless communication portion for wireless communication, providing, in response to receiving a list of allowable device identifiers from a remote server apparatus via the second wireless communication portion, said list of allowable device identifiers to the first wireless communication portion, and issuing, in response to the first wireless control portion receiving an advertising message comprising a device identifier included in said list of allowable device identifiers, an advertising report including at least one of the received device identifier and a service identifier associated with the received device identifier.
Abstract:
A system for expediting wireless connection establishment between wireless-enabled apparatuses. In at least one example implementation an apparatus may transmit discovery messages for discovering other apparatuses. The apparatus may receive one or more messages responding to the discovery message, and may determine whether any of the received responses satisfy a predetermined response criteria. If the apparatus determines that any of the received messages satisfy the response criteria, wireless connection establishment may be expedited between the apparatus and a source apparatus for each of the received messages that satisfy the response criteria. In an alternative scenario where a touch mode may be active in an apparatus that receives a message from at least one other apparatus, the apparatus may determine whether the message satisfies a predetermined criteria. If the message is determined to satisfy the criteria, the apparatus may expedite wireless connection establishment to the other apparatus.

Abstract:
A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for facilitating efficient device discovery. In regards to a method implemented by a master device, a first identifier is received from a remote source. The method also receives one or more wireless device discovery packets comprising a second identifier from a proximate device, wherein the wireless device discovery packet comprises information compliant with a short-range communication technology to advertise presence of the proximate device or information compliant with a short-range communication technology to scan for proximate devices according to proximity-based communication technology. The method then, causes, in an instance in which at least the portion of the first identifier matches at least the portion of the second identifier, a wireless short-range communication connection procedure to be initiated between the apparatus and the proximate device, wherein the wireless short-range communication connection procedure complies with the proximity-based communication technology.
Abstract:
An apparatus, method and computer program wherein the apparatus comprises: processing circuitry; and memory circuitry including computer program code; the memory circuitry and the computer program code configured to, with the processing circuitry, cause the apparatus at least to perform; causing a service to be provided using a first user device and an accessory device wherein the accessory device is connected to the first user device via a wireless connection and wherein a plurality of user devices are registered to a user account; obtaining status information from the first user device; and determining a trigger event has occurred and in response to determining that a trigger event has occurred, enabling a second user device to establish a wireless connection to the accessory device wherein the second user device is registered to the user account.
Abstract:
There are disclosed various methods and apparatuses for a device setup. In some embodiments of the method a signal from a peripheral device is detected by an apparatus and biometric data is received from the peripheral device. The biometric data is transmitted to a server. An indication whether the server has found biometric identification corresponding to the biometric data or other information indicative of that the apparatus and the peripheral device are attached to a same user is received from the server. If the indication reveals that the server has found biometric identification corresponding to the biometric data or other information indicative of that the apparatus and the peripheral device are attached to a same user configuration data is received from the server and used for configuring at least one of the apparatus and the peripheral device. In some embodiments the apparatus comprises means for implementing the method.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for controlling smart objects with a collage user interface using normalized user interface descriptors. A method is provided for receiving user interface description data from a plurality of utility devices. The user interface description data includes access and control data associated with the respective utility device. The method also includes generating a collaged user interface based on the user interface description data; receiving a signal associated with a first user interface description data associating the first user interface description data with a second user interface description data; and causing the collaged user interface to be displayed on a user equipment user interface.
Abstract:
In an example embodiment, a method for short service discovery includes establishing a connection, by an apparatus, with a wireless device having a subset of service information available as default service information; transmitting, by the apparatus, a request for additional service information available from the wireless device; receiving, by the apparatus, from the wireless device, additional service information available from the wireless device, if the request is authorized by the wireless device; and receiving, by the apparatus, from the wireless device, a subset of service information available from the wireless device, if the request is not authorized by the wireless device.
Abstract:
This specification describes a method comprising determining an orientation of a first apparatus with respect to a second apparatus (S6.2) based on at least one radio frequency packet passed wirelessly between the first and second apparatuses, and causing performance of an active scan for the second apparatus or a third apparatus associated with the second apparatus (S6.5) only if it is determined that the orientation of the first apparatus with respect to the second apparatus satisfies at least one predetermined condition (S6.3).
