    摘要: The invention encompasses a novel method of treating inflammatory disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, and novel methods of identifying and screening for drugs useful in the treatment of inflammatory diseases and their clinical symptoms. The inventors have made the discovery that the activity of HIF-1α, a transcription regulator known to have an effect on some cancers, has a significant impact on the pathophysiology of rheumatoid arthritis. The symptoms of an inflammatory disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, may be alleviated by administering a compound that inhibits the activity of HIF-1α.

    摘要: The invention encompasses methods, including computer-implemented methods, of defining a virtual patient population and mapping the virtual patient population to a population of real patients. The invention utilizes virtual measures from one or more virtual patients, and data representative of multiple real subjects in a sample population, such as data collected from patients in a clinical trial or epidemiological study of a real population. The invention includes evaluating the similarity between the virtual patients and the real subjects, and assigning prevalences to the virtual patients based on the evaluation. The similarity can be assessed using some or all of the virtual measures of the virtual patients and some or all of the data obtained for the real subjects. Any of various goodness-of-fit measures can be used to evaluate the similarity or to help identify prevalences. The virtual patient population is defined as the virtual patients according to their respective prevalences.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for identifying therapeutic targets of a biological system in a disease state are described. In one implementation, a method uses a computer model of the biological system. The method includes identifying a set of functions of a biological constituent of the biological system. The method also includes executing the computer model in the absence of a modification of the set of functions to produce a first output and executing the computer model based on the modification of the set of functions to produce a second output. The method further includes comparing the second output with the first output to identify the biological constituent as a therapeutic target.
