Abstract:
Various communication systems may benefit from appropriate restriction on use. For example, certain wireless communication systems may benefit from radio-access-technology-specific access restrictions. A method can include registering a user equipment with a network element. The registering can include identifying user equipment capabilities. The method can also include receiving a response from the network element indicating restriction on use of at least one radio access technology.
Abstract:
Various communication systems may benefit from an improved signaling protocol. For example, machine-to-machine communications in a network may benefit from improved signaling and security. A method includes establishing a secure data transmission path for an application. The secure data transmission path is used to transmit data between a user equipment and a network element. The network entity includes a gateway or an application server. The method also includes transmitting data for the application over the secure data transmission path using a pre-configured radio bearer. The radio bearer is pre-configured for data transmission between the user equipment and an access node located between the user equipment and the network element. In addition, the method includes receiving a response message at the user equipment from the network element through the secure data transmission path.
Abstract:
Various communication systems may benefit from improved voice call support. For example, it may be helpful for a user equipment in a first radio access technology that may not support voice calls to initiate a voice call with a second radio access technology. A method includes initiating a voice call between a user equipment to an entity in a second radio access technology cell. The user equipment is located in a first radio access technology cell. The method also includes registering the user equipment with the second radio access technology cell. In addition, the method includes conducting the voice call with the entity via the second radio access technology cell.
Abstract:
Various communication systems may benefit from network location reporting. For example, such reporting may be beneficial in the establishment of a multimedia broadcast/multicast service bearer for media traffic delivery from a group communication service application server or other similar device or system. A method can include reporting at least a first set of user equipment location information and at least a second set of user equipment location information from the user equipment to at least one network node for broadcast bearer management. The first set of user equipment location information can include a serving cell identity of the user equipment. The second set of user equipment location information can include at least one identity of at least one network service area for media broadcasting.
Abstract:
It is provided a method, comprising providing a first and a second service to a first a second user by a providing unit; monitoring if the providing unit operates in an isolated mode or in a linked mode; and at least one of a service controlling and a user controlling, wherein the service controlling comprises inhibiting, in the isolated mode, the providing unit from providing the second service to the first and the second user; and preventing that the providing unit is inhibited from providing the first service to at least one user; and the user controlling comprises inhibiting, in the isolated mode, the providing unit from providing the first and the second service to the second user; and preventing that the providing unit is inhibited from providing at least one service to the first user.
Abstract:
Communication systems may benefit from connection setup improvements. For example, fifth generation communication systems may benefit from low latency service connection setup for 5G network terminal in new service areas. A method can include receiving an indication of preference for services from a 5G network terminal. The method can also include determining that the indication indicates a preference for low latency services. The method can further include determining whether the low latency services are offered in a tracking area of the 5G network terminal. The method can additionally include communicating with the 5G network terminal regarding the availability of the low latency services.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus may include determining whether a user equipment is reachable or not. The method may also include determining whether a network should buffer downlink data. The determining whether the network should buffer the downlink data is based on stored context information or by querying an evolved Node B. The method may also include requesting a first network node to buffer the downlink data for a duration. The method may also include informing a second network node if the user equipment is determined to be unreachable. The method may also include informing the second node if the downlink data has been buffered.
Abstract:
An apparatus of a communication network performs processing (10) for a group message to be sent to a plurality of devices. The group message includes an application layer content and a group identification identifying the plurality of devices. The apparatus performs communication (20) for sending the group message to the plurality of devices by using a protocol for enabling sending the group message in broadcast data to the plurality of devices. The protocol may enable sending the group message in multimedia broadcast/multicast service data or cell broadcast service data to the plurality of devices.
Abstract:
Communication systems, such as an evolved packet system, may benefit from various interworking functions. In particular, certain communication systems in which machine type communication devices are deployed may benefit from a machine type communication interworking function in a visited network. A method may comprise receiving, from a network element, a request in a visited machine type communication interworking function. The method may also comprise processing the request in the visited machine type communication interworking function. The method may further comprise sending a response to the network element in response to the request.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus can transmit communications traffic to a home subscriber server on a network. An overload indicator is received from the home subscriber server, with the overload indicator including a severity indicator. Traffic volume transmitted to the home subscriber server can be adjusted based upon the severity indicator.
