According to an aspect of the invention, an imaging apparatus includes an imaging section, a user's operation detecting circuit, a control circuit, and an image processing circuit. The imaging section is configured to capture images of an object at different imaging positions and output image signals based on the images. The user's operation detecting circuit is configured to detect a user's operation. The control circuit is configured to change an image display range in accordance with the user's operation, and cause the imaging section to capture the images at the different imaging positions in accordance with the changed image display range. The image processing circuit is configured to generate image data using the image signals acquired at the imaging positions. The image data corresponds to an area of the image display range changed by the user's operation.

A image file creation method includes: an image pickup step of picking up an image of a living body; a treatment detection step of detecting a treatment related to the living body; and an image file creation step of creating, according to a result of the detection in the treatment detection step, an image file, for image data obtained in the image pickup step, with specimen information including information indicating that the image is an image relating to specimen collection by the treatment related to the living body, to record data of, e.g., an image of a tissue such as a cell itself and data of, e.g., an image related to the tissue such as the cell, a treatment and/or collection, enabling a plurality of institutions, facilities, etc., to easily refer to information on the tissue such as the cell.

An observation apparatus is equipped with a housing including a top plate that is a stage on which a container that accommodates a sample is placed; an optical system accommodated in the housing; an imaging device configured to capture an image of the sample with light from the sample that has entered through the stage and the optical system; and a motor that is a power source of a moving mechanism configured to make the optical system move in a direction along the stage. At least one of the imaging device or the motor is placed outside the housing.

A microscopy system includes a microscope apparatus that has an objective and a correction device correcting for a spherical aberration, and a refractive index calculator that calculates a refractive index of a sample at a target position in the sample on the basis of a plurality of target set values each of which is a set value of the correction device and each of which corresponds to an amount of spherical aberration that occurs in the microscope apparatus when an observation target plane is situated at a different position in the sample in an optical-axis direction of the objective.
