Abstract:
The present disclosure describes the use of a polycyclic polysiloxane polymer for light emitting diodes (LEDs). The polymer is characterized by high flame retardancy, high temperature stability, and low moisture and gas permeability. The polymer is useful as a potting compound for encapsulation of phosphors in LED packages, or as a molding resin for producing optical parts for LED light engines, or as a protective coating applied over the light emitting elements.
Abstract:
Disclosed are composites that include a matrix and at least one filler. The matrix may be a core-shell particle assembly that includes an inorganic core and a polymeric shell. The refractive index of the core may be adjusted by adjusting the volume fraction of the core, such that the refractive index of the core-shell particle assembly matches or substantially matches the refractive index of the filler. Optically transparent composites that exhibit properties of the filler may therefore be achieved. Methods of making such composites and light sources including such composites are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Lighting devices, and methods of manufacturing the same, are provided. A lighting device includes a cover through which emitted light passes and a formed flexible light engine. The formed flexible light engine is placed within a housing, or serves as the housing itself. An interface couples to cover to the housing or the formed flexible light engine. The formed flexible light engine includes a flexible substrate and a plurality of solid state light sources located thereon. The plurality of solid state light sources are configured to emit light through the cover. The formed light engine has a defined shape created during the forming process. This enables placement on the housing within the lighting device, or contributes to the overall shape of the lighting device.
Abstract:
There is herein described a ceramic phosphor target which may be used in a laser-activated remote phosphor application. The target comprises a substantially flat ceramic phosphor converter comprised of a photoluminescent polycrystalline ceramic which is attached to a reflective metal substrate by a high thermal conductivity adhesive.
