The invention relates to a DC power distribution system for distributing DC power to one or several electrical devices. The system comprises an electrical device (2) for receiving DC power via an electrical conductor (4) from a power supply device (3) with a power supply control unit (5) and for transmitting a signal to the power supply control unit for requesting a lower power or a higher power. The power supply device is operable in a high power mode and in a low power mode, wherein the power supply control unit controls the power mode of the power supply device depending on the received signal. This allows adapting the power supply to the power, which is actually really needed in the DC power distribution system, in a technically relatively simple way. Particularly standby situations can be handled more efficiently.

The invention relates to a DC power distribution system, especially an EMerge DC power distribution system (1). The system is adapted such that power conductors (3, 4) electrically connected to different groups (5, 6) of ports (14) belong to separate power line communication (PLC) channels, wherein several electrical loads (7 . . . 10; 11 . . . 13) are in power line communication with a group of ports of a same PLC channel. The separation of the different PLC channels allows for a relatively simple determination to which group of ports which electrical loads are electrically connected. This information can be used by, for instance, a user to commission the electrical loads. For example, if the locations of the power conductors, which are electrically connected to certain groups of ports, are known, the information about which electrical loads are connected to which groups of ports can be used for determining the location of the respective electrical load.

By providing the system with an input unit (5,25,55) comprising a user-operable command interface (9,19,49,59) and a control device (3,30) which is connectable to said electrical appliance, wherein said input unit is located remotely from said control device, and said control device is adapted to detect a light signal being reflected off said command interface, to allocate said light signal to a predetermined command and to output said command to the electrical appliance, it is possible to rely on light manipulation when being reflected, without need of connection to the electrical wiring present in a building.
