A passive radio-frequency transponder device is received within the interior space of the housing. The passive transponder device has an iron core antenna assembly. The antenna assembly is disposed adjacent the interior wall surface of the interior space and oriented to maximally couple a radio-frequency signal present at the interior wall surface to an antenna of the antenna assembly.

    摘要: A spine shaver designed with increased tissue removing efficiency is described. The shaver comprises a cylindrical shaver blade, an elongated body, and a pulley and belt drive mechanism. The shaver blade further comprises a tissue cutting surface that extends along the longitudinal axis of the shaver. The shaver is further designed with the shaver blade positioned perpendicularly to the elongated body. The increased surface area of the shaver blade and perpendicular blade orientation provide an efficient means of removing spinal tissue and debulking the area between two vertebrae.

    摘要: An orthopedic device is described for stabilizing the spinal column between first and second vertebral bodies. The device has first and second screws adapted for fixation to the first and second vertebral bodies, respectively. The device further includes an elongated ligament with a first end connected to the first screw and the second end operatively connected with the second screw. The ligament is made preferably of a nickel titanium alloy selected to have ductile inelastic properties at body temperature and is capable of plastic deformation to allow relative constrained motion between the vertebral bodies. The preferred nickel titanium has a martensite/austenite transition temperature above body temperature. In a preferred embodiment, the second pedicle screw includes a bearing for receiving the ligament in a slidably engageable relationship. The device further includes optional first and second dampening members surrounding the ligament for restraining the spinal column during flexion and extension.

    摘要: According to the invention, a torque-transmitting assembly is described. A female coupling member defines a shape with a tapered bore. A radially flexible sleeve member has a wall with a tapered exterior surface, received within the bore, and an inner surface defining a through-bore. An elongated shaft member made of super-elastic alloy has an outer surface that is received within the through-bore. Relative motion among at least two of the members causes the inner surface to contact the outer surface, inducing a super-elastic activation in the shaft, simultaneously securing the members together in a fixed relative position. The radially flexible sleeve member has a plurality of collet fingers, which preferably contact the shaft at discrete locations. It is further preferred that the super-elastic activation in the shaft occurs as a result of the discrete contact thereby changing the cross-sectional shape of the shaft, which is generally non-circular, e.g., polygonal, in a further preferred form. A surgical device, e.g., a flexible reamer, is descibed as incorporating the present assembly.
