    摘要: Novel cathode materials for use in electrochemical cells are disclosed. The cathode materials consist essentially of a conductive solution comprised of iodine dissolved in a mixture of two organic pyridine-based constituents, both of which function as donors to form complexes with iodine. Preferably, the cathode materials further include, in addition to the dissolved iodine, an iodine solid phase suspended therein. Large amounts of the iodine solid phase, relative to the dissolved iodine, may be used.

    摘要: A method of evaluating an electrochemical cell for a metallic contaminant-caused defect. The electrochemical cell is configured for use with an implantable medical device and includes an anode, a solid cathode and a liquid electrolyte. The method includes storing the cell at an elevated temperature following assembly for accelerating corrosion of possible metallic contaminants. A parameter of the cell related to cell voltage is then measured. An evaluation is made as to whether the cell is defective based upon this measured parameter.

    摘要: Electrochemical cells having an oxidizable active anode material, a solid, non-reactive electronically conductive cathode current collector, and an electrolytic solution between and in contact with the anode and the cathode current collector, the electrolytic solution comprising a solvent cathode component which is a liquid oxyhalide or thiohalide. And anode ion transporting solute component dissolved therein for rendering the electrolytic solution conductive of anode metal ions, the electrolytic solution having an end-of-life (EOL) component associated therewith, the EOL component being selected from the group consisting of the Main Group V halides preferably arsenic tribromide (AsBr.sub.3), arsenic trichloride (AsCl.sub.3), arsenic trifluoride (AsF.sub.3), vanadium halides, transition metal sulfides, oxides, except for the actinide series and technetium, and mixtures thereof to provide end-of-life indication. The EOL component selected in any specific instance has an electropotential which is lower than that of the specific solvent cathode component used i.e., the primary cathode material in the electrolytic solution.
