摘要: Valve assembly for sealed reception of an elongated object includes a valve body having at least one opening configured and dimensioned to permit entry of an elongated object and defining a central longitudinal axis, an elongated seal member formed of a resilient material and defining an aperture in general alignment with the opening of the valve body whereby the aperture is configured and dimensioned such that insertion of the object into the aperture causes the resilient material defining the aperture to resiliently engage the outer surface of the object in a substantially fluid flight manner, and at least one elongated guard member disposed within the seal member in supporting contact with the inner surface thereof. The guard member is positioned to engage the elongated object upon at least partial insertion of the elongated object into the valve body. The guard member includes at least a first substantially rigid portion adapted to be displaced relative to the longitudinal axis to facilitate expansion of the aperture of the seal member upon entry of the object therein and a second portion having less rigidity than the first portion of the guard member to enhance passage of the elongated object through the valve body.

摘要: Valve assembly for sealed reception of an elongated object includes a valve body having at least one opening configured and dimensioned to permit entry of an elongated object and defining a central longitudinal axis, an elongated seal member formed of a resilient material and defining an aperture in general alignment with the opening of the valve body whereby the aperture is configured and dimensioned such that insertion of the object into the aperture causes the resilient material defining the aperture to resiliently engage the outer surface of the object in a substantially fluid flight manner, and at least one elongated guard member disposed within the seal member in supporting contact with the inner surface thereof. 摘要: A seal assembly is provided which includes a housing and resilient first seal member associated with the housing. The first seal member is preferably a gasket having an aperture formed therein for receiving surgical instrumentation adapted to cooperate with a dilating means having an exterior face associated with the housing for dilating the aperture of the gasket. The first seal member and the dilating member are adapted for relative movement therebetween, the first seal member and the dilating member assuming a first position wherein the aperture of the first seal member is spaced from the dilating member and assuming a second position wherein the aperture of the first seal member is stretched around the exterior face of the dilating member. A flexible member may also be provided to help maintain a seal between the first seal member and an instrument inserted therethrough, in particular when the instrument is moved in a transverse direction.

摘要: A cannula assembly includes a housing and a cannula member connected to the housing. The cannula member has leading and trailing ends and defines a longitudinal axis. The cannula member further includes a main body, a seal adjacent the leading end and a flexible portion disposed between the main body and the seal. The seal is capable of receiving an instrument therethrough while maintaining a substantial sealed relation with the instrument. The flexible portion is configured to permit movement of the seal relative to the longitudinal axis during manipulation of the endoscopic instrument. The flexible portion of the cannula member may include one or more bellows. The one or more bellows may form a goose neck configuration. Alternatively, the one or more bellows define a series of ridges and grooves.

A method of assembly is also provided and includes the steps of connecting a shield member of a first predetermined configuration and dimension to a first housing section, attaching a knife blade assembly of a second predetermined configuration and dimension to the first housing section with a single motion wherein the attachment permits rotation of the knife blade relative to the first housing section, and attaching the first housing section to a second housing section with a quick connect mechanism which includes first and second mating portions such that the first and second housing sections are movable from a spaced apart position to a connected position in a single motion.

摘要: A seal assembly is provided which includes a housing and resilient first seal means associated with the housing. The obturator member may also include a guiding nub disposed distally of the central section and including a rounded distal-most portion. The rounded distal-most portion of the guiding nub may be atraumatic to tissue.

摘要: A surgical access assembly and method of use is disclosed, including an access member, a tissue engaging member, a sleeve extending from a portion of the membrane, and a fastening member to couple the access member and the sleeve. The access member includes proximal and distal ends, at least one lumen disposed therethrough, and defines a longitudinal axis. The tissue engaging member includes a membrane having proximal and distal ends with opposing openings, and a passage therethrough for receiving the access member. A length of the tissue engaging member may be selectively adjustable by a user so as to provide a retraction force. The sleeve extends proximally from a portion of the membrane. The sleeve has a proximal end and a distal end with opposing openings, the distal end of the sleeve defined by a portion of the membrane. A fastening member couples the access member and the sleeve.
