    Abstract: An apparatus and method of the disclosure provides a cooling mechanism for a handheld electronic device. The cooling mechanism includes a heat sink and an evaporative cooling mechanism. The evaporative cooling mechanism includes liquid retaining structures. The liquid retaining structures are located in proximity to the at least one IC of the handheld electronic device. Each liquid retaining structure is coated with a temperature sensitive polymer that act as hydrophilic when the temperature of the surface of the handheld electronic device is below a threshold temperature. To maintain the temperature of the surface of the handheld electronic device below the threshold temperature, the temperature sensitive polymer act as hydrophobic and evaporates the liquid stored in the liquid retaining structures to the atmosphere surrounding the handheld electronic device when the temperature of the surface of the electronic device is above the threshold temperature.

    Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a circuit, a conductor interconnecting a portion of the circuit, and a processor configured to determine a temperature of the conductor and adjust at least one parameter related to the conductor in response to the determined temperature rising above a threshold. The at least one parameter includes a lifetime estimate for the conductor. A method of operating an apparatus including a circuit and a conductor interconnecting a portion of the circuit is disclosed.     Abstract: A mobile device includes an exterior housing, a display, a capacitive sensor, a temperature sensor, and a controller. The capacitive sensor is coupled to the exterior housing at a backside of the mobile device and the temperature sensor is coupled to one or more components of the mobile device. The controller is coupled to the capacitive sensor and to the temperature sensor. The controller is configured to adjust a temperature threshold of the mobile device in response to detecting the presence of a case installed on the exterior housing. The controller is also configured to adjust one or more operating parameters of the mobile device to control a temperature of the exterior housing to below the temperature threshold based on the output of the capacitive sensor and one or more readings of the temperature sensor.
