    Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for positioning a vehicle. An apparatus for determining positioning information for a vehicle may comprise a plurality of receive coil circuits and a hardware processor. The plurality of receive coil circuits is configured to generate voltage signals from a magnetic field. The hardware processor is configured to generate position estimates of a position of the magnetic field generator with respect to a position of the plurality of receive coils. Each of the first sequence of position estimates is determined based upon a corresponding voltage vector derived from the voltage signals and at least one of a plurality of reference vectors. The hardware processor is configured to update the plurality of reference vectors based upon the first sequence of position estimates and a second sequence of position estimates generated based upon a source different from the plurality of receive coil circuits.

    Abstract: An apparatus for determining a relative position of a wireless power transmitter from a wireless power receiver is provided. The apparatus comprises a driver circuit configured to generate a first signal and a second signal. At least one of the first signal and the second signal oscillates at two frequencies. The apparatus comprises a first generator coil configured to generate a first alternating magnetic field when driven by the first signal. The first generator coil is also configurable to wirelessly transfer charging power from the wireless power transmitter. The apparatus comprises a second generator coil configured to generate a second alternating magnetic field when driven by the second signal.

    Abstract: One aspect of the disclosure provides apparatus for detecting an object. The apparatus comprises a sense coil. The apparatus comprises a processor configured to determine an amount of change in a reactance of the sense coil from a previous reactance value for the sense coil. The processor is configured to determine an amount of change in a resistance of the sense coil from a previous resistance value for the sense coil. The processor is configured to determine a presence of the object based on a relationship between the amount of change in the reactance of the sense coil and the amount of change in the resistance of the sense coil. The processor performs an inverse tangent operation on a quotient of the amount of change in the reactance of the sense coil divided by the amount of change in the resistance of the sense coil.

    Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for a hybrid foreign-object detection and position system. In an example aspect, a foreign object detection (FOD) system of the base power-transfer system detects a passive beacon of an electric vehicle power-transfer system based on a beacon loop of the passive beacon overlapping an array of FOD sense loops effective to cause a change in impedance or admittance of one or more of the FOD sense loops. In aspects, the impedance reflects a modulation signal from the passive beacon. A position detection system integrated with the FOD system determines a passive beacon response in the input data based on the modulation frequency from the passive beacon. Then, a position of the beacon loop is determined relative to the array of FOD sense loops using a result of the passive beacon response canceled from input data.
