    摘要: Processing chamber for use with apheresis devices are described herein. An example centrifugal processing chamber includes first and second lateral walls spaced at a distance from one another. Additionally, the example centrifugal processing chamber includes a channel at least partially defined by the first and second lateral walls. Further, the centrifugal processing chamber includes an inlet fluidly coupled to the channel to convey blood to the channel. Further still, the centrifugal processing chamber includes a first outlet fluidly coupled to the channel having a first opening adjacent the first lateral wall. The first outlet is to convey separated plasma from the channel. Additionally, the centrifugal processing chamber includes a second fluid outlet fluidly coupled to the channel having a second opening adjacent the second lateral wall. The second outlet is to convey separated red blood cells from the channel. Additionally, the processing chamber includes a barrier formed along the second lateral wall to intercept platelets. The first and second lateral walls are spaced such that the distance between the first and second lateral walls enables at least one therapeutic unit of single dose platelets to pool adjacent the barrier without spilling into the first outlet or the second outlet.

    摘要: A mouthpiece for use with breathing devices of the type used by scuba divers is provided. The mouthpiece includes-at least one no-return valve to allow exhalation directly into the ambient environment. Additional no-return valves can be incorporated into the inhalation pathway to prevent fluids from flowing back into the regulator housing. In one embodiment, an inlet no-return valve is located in the respiratory port tube of the regulator. In other embodiments, an inlet no-return valve is located in the mouthpiece itself. The disclosed invention keeps the interior spaces of the regulator clean and dry even when the regulator is not in place, thus extending regulator life and preventing a dangerous and irritating free-flow condition from occurring due to icing during cold water use. Saliva and expired air with its attendant moistures and pathogenic entities are prevented from entering the regulator housing. The mouthpiece is easily detachable and can be sanitized between uses, making it particularly well suited for rental and instructional purposes. The mouthpiece can be variously constructed to differentiate common-use mouthpieces from those owned individually.

    摘要: A centrifuge comprising a yoke element that rotates about a rotational axis and a processing chamber having an axis. The processing chamber includes a bowl element, a spool element, and a mechanism for joining the spool and bowl elements for relative movement between a mutually cooperating position for centrifugal processing and a mutually separated position for loading. A hinge attaches the processing chamber to the yoke element for pivotal movement between an operating position and an access position. In the operating position, the spool and bowl elements are in their mutually cooperating position and oriented for rotation with the yoke element about the rotational axis. In the access position, the processing chamber axis lies outside the axis of rotation and the spool and bowl elements are oriented for movement from their mutually cooperating position into their mutually separated position.
