摘要: Apparatuses and methods are provided for determining electrode impedances of a bioelectric signal-monitoring/recording system that includes an amplifier, and electrodes connected between a subject and the amplifier. An example apparatus includes: a voltage source outputting a voltage signal; a switching arrangement including an input electrically connected with the voltage source for receiving the voltage signal, an output electrically connected with the amplifier and the electrodes, and switches between the input and the output; and a controller in communication with the switches for opening and closing the switches to establish signal paths between the voltage source and the output, the controller calculating the electrode impedances relative to voltage outputs of the amplifier for each signal path.

摘要: An interactive tour guide system includes software downloaded from a tour-guide web site to a PDA (portable digital assistant) or tablet laptop computer. The user indicates his geographic location to the interactive tour-guide device by entry on a dynamic city map. Intelligent agent software responsive to a request from the user creates a customized tour program. The intelligent agent guides the user along the customized tour route by voice, video and/or graphics, and provides information about each exhibit on the tour. The downloaded interactive tour guide system provides interactive guided tours, theme guided tours and a self-guided “wander mode” tour. The virtual tour-guide system can personalize each directed tour by taking individual user expressed preferences into account, and can use collaborative filtering of experiences with prior users to suggest other exhibits which may be of interest to the present user. The interactive tour-guide system responds like a human tour-guide to the needs of the user.

摘要: Reticulated composites are formed with a thin coating of a ductile biocompatible metal such as tantalum on a brittle biocompatible substrate such as vitreous carbon. Such composites exhibit physical properties that permit these monolithic composites to be morselized, or sized and shaped manually. Such composites exhibit surfaces with excellent ductile metal biocompatibility properties, but with strength and fracture physical properties that are more characteristic of the brittle substrate than of the ductile metal. Such composites fracture easily, and may be morselized or worked by manual sizing and shaping. Such morselization and working is accomplished by breaking or fracturing the composite, rather than plastically deforming it. Morselized or manually shaped reticulated composites exhibit excellent biocompatibility characteristics with micro- and nano-textured surfaces that promote rapid bone ingrowth and adhesion. When the composite is broken, the substrate is exposed. The presence of exposed substrate does not significantly impair the biocompatibility of these composites.
