摘要: A system, a method, and article of manufacture are employed to clean the input/output transducers on tape drives, verified by the tape drives reading alphanumeric information from data tracks and servo tracks of a cleaner tape. An aggressive cleaning frontcoat section of the cleaner tape can be used to provide additional cleaning action, and the cleanliness of the data read elements, data write elements, and the servo heads. A less-abrasive cleaning section may be used to clean less difficult types of contaminants. In this manner, the cleanliness of the data read elements, the data write elements, and the servo heads can be verified. A cleaning section may also be used as a leader section of a self-characterization section. Alternatively, a magnetic data tape section may be included for self-characterization.

摘要: A method for preforming of two or more flexible cables in an arrangement consisting of a combination of rigid printed circuit boards and flexible cable sections extending therebetween. Moreover, also provided is an apparatus for the preforming of two or more flexible cable sections of a combination of rigid printed circuit boards and therewith interposed flexible cable sections which are adapted to interconnect the rigid printed circuit boards. The apparatus consists of a tool constituted of an elongated cylindrical member having a tapered leading end which narrows into an ultra-thin flat end section of a blade-like configuration, and which is adapted to be pushed between the flexible cables and so as to preform the flexible cable sections and cause them to yield in a predetermined outwardly bowed permanently relationship between the rigid printed circuit boards at the opposite ends thereof to lengthen the fatigue life of the conductors in the flexible cable sections.

摘要: A magnetic storage media includes a magnetic first-pole polarity initialized servo track segment and a magnetic second-pole polarity differential timing based servo pattern recorded on the magnetic first-pole polarity initialized servo track segment. The magnetic second-pole polarity differential timing based servo pattern represents magnetic encoded servo position information for facilitating a determination of a servo position error signal exclusive of noise.

摘要: A data storage cartridge comprises data storage media configured to store data for read and/or write access, wherein the data may be arranged in a plurality of partitions; and a plurality of cartridge memories. A control system, for example of a data storage drive, is configured to allocate at least portions of capacity of the data storage media to cartridge memories of the data storage cartridge; and to provide information defining the allocated portions of capacity to the cartridge memories. Each of the cartridge memories may have a separate user and thus provide access for that user to separate partitions.

摘要: A disk drive data storage device and a method for implementing a sector selectable write-once read-many (WORM) functionality on the disk drive storage system are disclosed. Data stored in a sector on magnetic storage media or on rewritable optical media are protected from being overwritten by having additional (WORM) bits in the sector header to denote the protection status of the data in that sector. When data is to be written to a sector of a disk drive of the storage system, the sector header for that sector is read and the WORM bits are examined. If the value of the WORM bits indicates that the sector is protected, the write command will not be executed and an appropriate error condition is posted to the host system. If the WORM bits for the sector indicates no WORM protection, the data is written to the sector.

摘要: A holographic information recording apparatus is disclosed. The holographic information recording apparatus comprises a laser light source, a beam splitter, and a reflective spatial light modulator. The beam splitter provides a reference beam and a carrier beam, where that reference beam is directed without reflection toward a holographic data storage medium. The carrier beam is reflected off the reflective spatial light modulator to form a data beam comprising an image of information. The reference beam interacts with the data beam to form a hologram comprising the image. That hologram is then encoded in a holographic data storage medium.
