    摘要: The invention is a colorimeter for dental applications comprising a hand-held probe, similar in size to a dental drill, attached by an electrical cable to a small self-contained display module. The calorimeter provides the capability for measuring the colors of a number points along a line on the surface of an object such as a tooth. A measurement is made while placing the tip of the probe against, or in close proximity to, the surface of the object. The display module to which probe attaches contains a microprocessor and provides a control, display and data interface to the operator. The display module can be adapted for fastening to the wrist of the operator thereby leaving both hands free to manipulate the probe and other tools. The calorimeter is particularly well suited for measuring the color of teeth in a dentist's office in preparation for making dental prostheses which accurately match the color of natural teeth. The colorimeter generates from a single measurement an array of color data points measured along a line on the surface of an object. From those data points, the processor can perform statistical analysis yielding a single color value, generate and display a color profile along a surface, compare measured values with a preloaded table of values, or upload color data to a remote location for laboratory or manufacturing purposes. The colorimeter can also use variations in the color values measured along a line to identify boundaries of areas on a surface. For example, the color profile can be used to identify the gum line on a tooth. The probe comprises multiple light emitting diodes (LEDs) for successively emitting light of different colors toward a surface, a linear photosensor array for receiving light reflected from the surface, and a lens for directing light from the target to the array, all contained within the probe itself. The calorimeter may also comprise a cradle for storing the probe and display module when not in use. The cradle may provide a battery charger, calibration references, and data links for uploading or downloading data from a remote location.

    摘要: A workman's platform comprising a wheeled base, scissors linkage having plural sets of lever arms and a deck vertically movable by the linkage. All ends of the linkage arms are longitudinally movable on the base and deck. An upper centering link is pivoted at one end to the mid-point of the deck and at the other end to the mid-point of an upper lever arm. A lower centering link is similarly connected to the deck and to a lower lever arm. The adjacent ends of the lever arms are off-set and pin-connected, the lever arms being in spaced,parallel relation when the linkage is retracted. A single vertically movable actuating element is connected to the pivot pin of the lower set of lever arms.

    摘要: A fluid particle counter comprising an inlet jet tip producing an air flow, a strip laser diode producing a laser beam, and a beam shaping system that includes an aspheric collimating lens, an achromatic spherical lens, a cylinder lens, and a series of cascading apertures. A retarder rotates the polarization so that the TE mode is along the direction of fluid flow. The optical system is designed so that along the flow axis the laser beam is single mode, while the multimodes due to the strip laser are constrained to the dimension perpendicular to the flow. The beam is pinched to a 35 micron waist and has a Gaussian profile along the flow direction which permits locating the beam within 3.5 mm of the flow tip while preventing stray light scattering from the tip. The beam profile along the axis perpendicular to the flow is closer to a square wave than a Gaussian. The particle counter output is substantially free of all noise except noise created by light scattered from molecules of the fluid, even for volumetric particle counters.

    摘要: The invention is a colorimeter for measurement of the color of an object. The colorimeter comprises a hand-held probe which is similar in size and shape to a large writing pen and provides the capability of measuring the color of a spot or target on, or within, the surface of an object. A measurement is made while placing the tip of the probe against, or in close proximity to, the surface of the object. The calorimeter generates from a single measurement three color data points representing the reflectance of the spot measured at the wavelengths of three primary colors. From those data points, a microprocessor can perform analyses yielding a single color value represented in various standard formats, or it can compare the measured values with a preloaded table of values. The colorimeter can then present the results on a liquid crystal display. The colorimeter contains multiple light emitting diodes (LEDs) for successively emitting light of different colors toward a target, a light sensor for receiving light reflected from the target, and a light pipe for directing light from the LEDs to the target. The display may be an integral part of the probe or contained in a separate display module connected to the probe by an electrical cable.

    摘要: An apparatus for reading information off a document such as a check is herein disclosed. The apparatus includes an apparatus housing defining a specific path through which the document is intended to pass during normal operation of the apparatus. The apparatus also includes an arrangement including a read head positioned at a fixed point on the path and cooperating circuitry for reading specific information off of the document as the document is caused to move through the path and across the read head. And, the apparatus includes an arrangement for moving the document through the path and across the read head along with causing the document to engage against the read head as the document moves across the read head. This document moving arrangement includes an arrangement supporting a freely rotating idler roller which is positioned to engage the document against the read head. Also, this document moving arrangement is configured in a way which places a moment on the document as it moves through the path so as to insure that the document crosses the read head in a predetermined orientation with reset to the read head.

The black glass aperture element removes diffracted and stray light from the beam without damage to the sample chamber.
