The method comprises acquiring a plurality of points related to the structure in a continuous mode, and subsequently registering at least one of the points to a previously acquired imaging dataset of the structure. An apparatus, system and a computer-readable medium are also provided. The present invention provides faster acquisition of EAM points by modifying the mapping system so that catheter tip locations are automatically and continuously recorded without requiring explicit navigation to and annotation of fiducial landmarks on the endocardium.

Image dataset acquisition devices (12, 14) obtain the first and second image datasets. A similarity function indicative of a likelihood that the first and second image datasets are in correspondence with one another is computed by a processor (16) and then a ranking of each of a plurality of local maxima of the similarity function is determined. Registration transformations derived from a plurality of the local maxima are displayed on a display (18), and using a user-interface (22), a physician can select each registration transformation to ascertain visually whether it is the clinically-optimal registration transformation for subsequent use.

Along with the advancement of cryoablation procedures, there have been developments resulting in technology that can use catheters adapted with cryogenic balloons containing two non-compliant membranes. These cryogenic balloons do not contact significant portions of the targeted tissue, which can result in a longer than desirable ablation procedure. It may be advantageous for these cryogenic balloons to conform to the targeted tissue more effectively than prior advancements have enabled. According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, an expansion chamber can contain an inner membrane and an outer membrane. In an exemplary expansion membrane, the outer membrane can conform to an anatomical structure during an ablation procedure and the inner membrane can facilitate a selective expansion of the outer membrane. In a further exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the inner membrane can be provided with a plurality of membranes. In another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, an energy facilitating arrangement can be provided within the inner membrane. For example, cryogenic fluid, a laser or a RF coil can be provided as the energy facilitating arrangements within the inner membrane.

An arrangement and method for treating cardiac abnormalities and/or inconsistencies are provided. In particular, a fluid is introduced to a target area within a heart of a subject. Preferably, a volume of the target area which receives the fluid is less than a volume of the heart, and the volume of the target area which receives the fluid is independent from a manner of introducing the fluid to the target area. For example, the volume of the target area which receives the fluid is less than the volume of the heart regardless of whether the fluid is introduced systemically or locally. The arrangement may also include an energy source adapted to transmit energy, such as light, to at least one portion of the target area.
