    摘要: A discharge lamp 50 comprises a luminous bulb 10 in which a luminous material 18 is encapsulated and a pair of electrodes 12 are arranged to be opposed to each other, and sealing parts (11a, 11b) that are formed at both ends of the luminous bulb 10 and in which metal foil structures 13 electrically connected to the pair of electrodes 12, respectively, are sealed. At least one of the metal foil structures 13 is composed of a first metal foil 13a, a second metal foil 13b and a metal bar 21 coupling both of them. At least one sealing part 11b of the sealing parts includes a cavity 20 around the position where in the sealing part the metal bar 21 is located, and at least a rare gas is encapsulated in the cavity 20.

    摘要: In a high intensity discharge lamp, at least one of an arc bend amount and an apparent width of arc is controlled by a simple configuration at low cost. A high intensity discharge lamp system 110 has a high intensity discharge lamp 111 and an operating circuit 113 for driving the high intensity discharge lamp 111. In the high intensity discharge lamp 111, a rare gas and a filling material 136 containing a metal halide as a light generating substance are enclosed in the arc tube 121 provided with a pair of electrodes 122a and 122b. The lamp system is disposed such that the line connecting the electrodes 122a and 122b is horizontal, and by applying a magnetic field having a vertical magnetic flux thereto and by varying the frequency of alternating current for driving the high intensity discharge lamp 111, at least one of an arc bend amount and an apparent width of arc can be easily controlled.

The lamp has a sealed electrode assembly having an electrical current supply line with one end portion connected to a metal foil. A first portion of the side tube portion where an electrical current supply line is located is heated and this portion is compressed by a first pressure. A second portion of the side tube portion where a metal foil is located is heated and this portion is compressed by a second pressure. The second pressure is made larger than the first pressure.

    摘要: An energy converter according to the present invention includes a filament 11 for converting given energy into electromagnetic waves and radiating the waves, and a radiation suppressing portion for suppressing some of the electromagnetic waves (e.g., infrared rays), which have been radiated from the filament 11 and of which the wavelengths exceed a predetermined value. The radiation suppressing portion has a bundle 12 of fine wires 12a, of which the axial direction is aligned with a direction in which the electromagnetic waves propagate with their radiations suppressed.
