Abstract:
Provided herein are methods for preparing dynamic cross-linked polymer compositions derived from an ester oligomer component, a chain extender component, and one or more of a transesterification or poly condensation catalyst are described. The dynamic cross-linked polymer compositions may be prepared via melt poly condensation.

Abstract:
A poly(butylene terephthalate-co-adipate) copolymer is disclosed, where the copolymer has a melt temperature from 105 to 125° C., and wherein the copolymer includes a polyester component residue derived from a terephthalic-containing polyester homopolymer, a terephthalic-containing polyester copolymer, and combinations thereof, and further includes a polyester residue component; a quencher residue; and from 0.05 to 5 weight % based on total weight of poly(butylene terephthalate-co-adipate) copolymer of a residue of an isocyanurate, polyisocyanate, and combinations thereof. Compositions and articles including the copolymer are also described.
Abstract:
A device for making polybutylene terephthalate includes (1) a slurry paste vessel; (2) a tower reactor to which a mixture of 1,4-butane diol and terephthalic acid from vessel (1) is supplied, the tower reactor having a plurality of reactor zones wherein the lower third of the tower reactor is in the form of a hydrocyclone with attached heat exchanger, and the hydrocyclone has a supply line from vessel (1), the hydrocyclone being connected to the top side of the tower reactor; (3) a first continuously stirred tank reactor to which the product from tower reactor (2) is supplied; (4) an optional second continuously stirred tank reactor to which the product from (3) is supplied; (5) a dual shaft ring reactor to which the product from stirred tank reactor (3) or (4), is supplied; and (6) a pelletizer where the product from dual shaft ring reactor (5) is continuously fed and pelletized.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a thermoplastic composition with improved hydrolytic stability, comprising: 30 to 50 percent by weight of a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) having a carboxylic end group concentration (CEG) of 40 to 120 mmol/kg and an intrinsic viscosity of 0.63 to 0.68 dl/g as measured in a 60:40 phenol/tetrachloroethane; 0.01 to 0.1 percent by weight of a catalyst; 0.01 to 5 percent by weight of an epoxy chain extender; wherein all weight percents are based on the total weight of the composition.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a continuous process and device for making polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin, particularly high molecular weight PBT resin. Also disclosed are a device for conducting the process, and a monitoring process for determining the carboxylic acid end group concentration of the resulting PBT.
Abstract:
A process for making oligomers of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) with desirable intrinsic viscosity and carboxylic end group concentrations includes combining 1.4-butane diol (BDO). terephthalic acid and a catalyst to from a mixture and heating the mixture until the clearing point is reached based on visual inspection. The PBT oligomers are used in a continuous process for making polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin.
