Abstract: Thermoplastic compositions include: a copolyester elastomer including a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) moiety and an elastomer moiety: and from greater than 0.1 wt % to 9 wt % of at least one brightening agent. The copolyester elastomer is formed according to a process including (1) forming the PBT moiety from a high purity terephthalic moiety: and (2) polymerizing the PBT moiety with the elastomer moiety to form the copolyester elastomer, wherein the high purity terephthalic moiety is derived from post-consumer, pre-consumer or post-industrial recycled (PCR) polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The PBT moiety includes PBT derived from post-consumer, pre-consumer or post-industrial recycled (PCR) polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the high purity terephthalic moiety has a purity of at least about 95%, and the thermoplastic composition has an L* color value of at least 80 as determined according to a CIELab color space standard. Methods for forming the copolymer elastomer and compositions including it are also described.

Abstract: A method includes depolymerizing post-consumer or post-industrial recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) to form bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET), and reacting at least a portion of the BHET with a catalyst to form an alcohol. The alcohol includes cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM) or 1,4-phenylenedimethanol (PDM). Further steps of the method include polymerizing the alcohol in the presence of additional BHET to form a polyester. The polyester may include poly(cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate (PCT), polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) copolyester, polycyclohexylene dimethylene terephthalate glycol (PCTG) copolyester, polycyclohexylene dimethylene terephthalate acid (PCTA), or a monomer having repeating units with the structure (I), wherein n is an integer having a value of at least 20.

Abstract: A poly(carbonate-siloxane) composition comprising: a poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer comprising carbonate units and siloxane units, wherein a siloxane content is greater than 25 wt % to less than 70 wt %, based on the total weight of the poly (carbonate-siloxane) copolymer and wherein the weight average molecular weight of the poly (carbonate-siloxane) copolymer is greater than 30,000 g/mol, as measured by gel permeation chromatography using a crosslinked styrene-divinyl benzene column, using polystyrene standards and calibrated for polycarbonate; a homopolycarbonate comprising a bisphenol A homopolycarbonate; a colorant composition comprising an organic colorant, an inorganic pigment, or a combination thereof, wherein the colorant composition optionally comprises titanium dioxide in an amount of 0.8 wt % or less; optionally, a flame retardant; optionally, an anti-drip agent; optionally, an additive composition, wherein an average siloxane domain size is less than 100 nanometers as determined by scanning electron microscopy, nd a molded sample of the poly(carbonate-siloxane) composition is substantially free of pearlescence.

Abstract: Thermoplastic compositions include: (a) a thermoplastic polymer including a polycarbonate component; (b) a poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer; and (c) from 4 wt % to 25 wt % carbon black. The composition has a total siloxane content of from 2 wt % to 14 wt %. The thermoplastic compositions exhibit improved physical properties as compared to compositions that do not include the poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer, including volume resistivity, melt viscosity, impact strength, puncture impact energy and surface resistivity.

Abstract: Thermoplastic compositions include: (a) from about 20 wt % to about 50 wt % post-consumer recycled polycarbonate (PCR-PC); (b) from about 5 wt % to about 25 wt % of a filler component; (c) from about 4 wt % to about 7 wt % of a phosphazene component; (d) from about 20 wt % to about 65 wt % of a polycarbonate copolymer component; and (e) from about 1 wt % to about 20 wt % one or more additional components. The polycarbonate copolymer component includes bisphenol-A and a monomer comprising one or more of 3,3-Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-isoindol-1-one (PPPBP), 4-4-(3-3-5 trimethylcyclohexane-1-ldiyl)diphenol (BPI), 4,4′-(1-Methyl Ethyl) 1-3-cyclohexandiyl) Bis-Phenol (BHPM), 1,1-Bis(4-hydroxy-3-methyl phenyl) cyclohexane (DMBPC); 4-[1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)cyclododecyl]phenol (Red Cross), bisphenol based on cyclooctadiene, bisphenol based on isophorone nitrile, and combinations thereof. The thermoplastic composition exhibits improved heat properties, including but not limited to heat deflection temperature.
