Provided is a reception apparatus including: a reception unit that receives a broadcast wave of digital broadcasting using an IP (Internet Protocol) transmission system; and a control unit that controls, on the basis of information for managing only a broadcast component transmitted by a broadcast wave of the digital broadcasting, which is first signaling information transmitted by a broadcast wave of the digital broadcasting, or information for managing at least one component of the broadcast component and a communication component transmitted by communication, which is second signaling information transmitted by communication, operations of respective units for acquiring the at least one component of the broadcast component and the communication component. The present technology is applicable to a television receiver, for example.

The service category identifier capable of identifying an application applied to a provided service such as a program provided by a transmitting device is transmitted to the receiving device. The receiving device performs a continuation process on an application applied before service transition when the service transition occurs and when applications applied to services before and after the transition are same. The service category identifier is an identifier capable of identifying the service by determining whether to apply a residential playback application or a broadcast playback application for playback of the service.

When an application program including a resource created in accordance with the first directory structure is transmitted by the second transmission system, a carousel processing unit allows the resource created in accordance with the first directory structure to correspond to the second directory structure using the mapping information to thereby acquire the application program transmitted by the second transmission system. The present technology is applicable to television receiver, for example.
