The invention relates to a system for detecting any defective point on a power transmission line by making use of highly-accurate time signal transmitted from a satellite and by utilizing a digital data processing system. The system comprises a master station and a subordinate station, each of the stations having a surge detection circuit capable of detecting a surge voltage generated as a result of cutting of a power transmission line, a GPS receiver for delivering a predetermined periodical pulse and a reset signal in accordance with the electric wave from a satellite, and a time counter/time base which is reset at a period of 1 second in accordance with the signal from the GPS receiver and which is capable of converting a pulse of a predetermined period derived from the GPS receiver into a binary-coded digital signal, the system further comprising modulation/demodulation means for enabling the digital signal generated by the time counter/time base to be transmitted from the subordinate station to the master station, and a processor controller provided in the master station and capable of conducting a comparison between the digital signals so as to determine the distance to the point at which the power transmission line is cut.

A surge locating system and a method thereof which can accomplish the surge locating with high accuracy and with relatively simple structure. When the surge occurs, the voltage is generated on the neutral point of Y-connected three-phase alternating current transmission line because of losing a voltage balance on the three-phase alternating current transmission line. The surge locating can be accomplished by detecting the voltage generated in the neutral point. The neutral point is grounded, and the surge locating system according to the present invention is installed between the neutral point and the grounding point. The voltage generated in the neutral point is introduced into the surge locating system and the detecting time thereof is stored. This detecting time is stored in the respective stations, and the surge point can be located based on the detecting time difference between the stations.

The system comprises surge receiving means for receiving surges which occur on a power transmission line, locating means for locating a point where the surge occurs, digitizing means for digitizing said surge into a digital signal, extraction means for extracting from said digital signal the characterized portions thereof as information representative of the surge waveform, memory means for storing predetermined reference information concerning the nature of surges, and discriminating means for comparing said information representative of the surge wave form with said reference information stored in said memory means to discriminate the kind of surge.

Disclosed is a novel optically stable hyperbranched polymer whose molecular terminal can be derivatized with various compounds; and a method for producing such a polymer. Specifically disclosed is a hyperbranched polymer having a structure represented by Formula (1) wherein a halogen atom is at a molecular terminal. The hyperbranched polymer can be obtained by substituting the molecular terminal dithiocarbamate group of a hyperbranched polymer having a dithiocarbamate group at a molecular terminal, which is obtained by living radical polymerization of a dithiocarbamate compound having a vinyl group structure, with a halogen atom. Also disclosed is a hyperbranched polymer wherein an amino group or an ammonium group is at a molecular terminal instead of a halogen atom.

The present invention relates to a process for producing a polymer structure comprising: mixing and unifying a matrix polymer made of a linear polymer and a highly-branched polymer having hydrophilic functional groups at molecular ends and to form a structure containing the matrix polymer and the highly-branched polymer; and subjecting the obtained structure to either immersion in water and/or a hydrophilic solvent or exposure to an atmosphere of vapor of water and/or a hydrophilic solvent at a temperature ranging from a temperature lower than Tg of the matrix polymer by 30° C. to decomposition temperature of the matrix polymer; wherein the hydrophilic functional groups at the molecular ends of the highly-branched polymer are distributed in outermost surface of the polymer structure at an enhanced density. The present invention also relates to a process for producing a polymer structure in which vinyl polymer chains are grafted to at least a part of the hydrophilic functional groups.
