Abstract: A controller may use energy packets to control a prime mover of a machine. The controller may include an energy packet measurement control to calculate energy packets, perform post-processing actions on the energy packets to generate processed energy packets, and convert the processed energy packets into a fuel valve reference. Post-processing may include a calibration correction to remove measurement artifacts.

Abstract: An intelligent electronic device (IED) may monitor wet stack residue buildup of a diesel engine. Once the wet stack residue accumulates to a certain amount, the IED may perform a mitigation procedure. Additionally, tracking wet stack residue buildup may allow an IED to attempt to prevent or reduce accumulation of the wet stack residue. The IED may track an operating power level of the diesel engine to estimate the rate of residue buildup.

Abstract: Monitoring a health status of a current interruption device, such as a circuit breaker, is disclosed herein. For example, a device for monitoring a current interruption device may include a processor and a memory. The processor may execute instructions stored in the memory to cause the processor to monitor one or more current measurements of current from an electrical conductor that delivers electrical energy to a load. The processor may provide a signal indicating a health status of the current interruption device based at least in part on the one or more current measurements.

Abstract: The present disclosure pertains to systems and methods for selectively synchronizing one or more power conversion units of one or more distributed energy resources with a common time source when in an islanded state and with a measured phase angle of a grid when in a grid-connected state. In various embodiments, detecting whether the distributed energy resource is in a grid-connected state or an islanded state comprises microprocessor based analysis of measurement and monitoring data collected by intelligent electronic devices associated with the grid.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems and methods of sag in a power line. In an embodiment, a monitoring device may include a distance sensor and an operating parameter sensor. A processor of the monitoring device may acquire, via the distance sensor, a first distance measurement. The processor may acquire, via the operating parameter sensor, a first operating parameter measurement. The processor may provide an output signal indicating that the power line is sagging when a combination of the first distance measurement and the first operating parameter measurement exceed a first combined distance-operating parameter threshold.

Abstract: A controller may use energy packets to control a prime mover of a machine. The controller may include an energy packet measurement control to calculate energy packets and convert the energy packets into a fuel valve reference. Further, a frequency control may receive system feedback associated with the monitored machine and generate a frequency correction based on the system feedback. The controller may add the energy packet value and the frequency correction to determine a prime mover power reference and provide the prime mover power reference to a fuel valve control of the machine.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems and methods of detecting discharge events on power lines. For example, a system may include an acoustic sensor that detects a sound wave emitted from a power line. The system may include a radio frequency (RF) sensor that detects a radio wave emitted from the power line. The system may include electrical sensor circuitry that detects an electrical parameter of power being delivered on the power line. The system may include a processor that determines that a discharge event has occurred based on the sound wave, the radio wave, and the electrical characteristic. The system may provide an output signal indicating that the partial discharge event has occurred.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for balancing electrical generation and electrical demand in an electrical power system. In various embodiments, a controller may receive priority designations associated with a plurality of loads and inertia of a plurality of electrical generators. A trigger event analysis subsystem may detect a trigger event based on electrical conditions at a plurality of nodes within the electrical power system. A topology detection subsystem may identify a first subset of the plurality of nodes at which electrical conditions reflect the first trigger event and may associate those nodes in an electrical island. An electrical balancing system and control system may be configured to determine and eliminate an imbalance between electrical generation and electrical demand based on the combined inertia of the subset of the plurality of electrical generators and the plurality of priority designations associated with the subset of the plurality of loads.
