摘要: The invention encompasses novel computer models of chemical sensitivity of skin and systems for predicting chemical sensitivity of skin. In particular, the computer model of chemical sensitivity of skin comprises a) an epidermal compartment comprising a mathematical representation of exposure of an epidermal tissue to a chemical and a mathematical representation of a first population of antigen presenting cells interacting with the chemical; and b) a lymph node compartment comprising a mathematical representation of a second population of antigen presenting cells, and a mathematical representation of a population of T cells, wherein at least a subpopulation of the population of T cells interacts with the second population of antigen presenting cells.

摘要: The invention encompasses novel methods for developing a computer model of type 1 diabetes in a mammal. In particular, the models can include representations of biological processes associated with a pancreatic lymph node and one or more pancreatic islets. Alternatively, the models can include representations of biological processes associated with at least two conditions selected from the group consisting of autoreactive T cell production, autoreactive T cell priming, insulitis and hyperglycemia. The invention also provides methods for developing a computer model of a non-insulin replacement treatment of type 1 diabetes. The invention also encompasses computer models of type 1 diabetes, methods of simulating type 1 diabetes and computer systems for simulating type 1 diabetes and the uses thereof.

摘要: The invention encompasses novel methods of treating rheumatoid arthritis and its symptoms and novel methods of identifying and screening for drugs useful in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and its clinical symptoms. Targeted manipulation of a computer model of a human rheumatic joint provided the surprising result that decreasing the activity of FLIP, an inhibitor of apoptosis, by at least 25% has a significant impact on the pathophysiology of rheumatoid arthritis. Inhibition of the activity of FLIP by at least 25% is predicted to alleviate the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
