A valve timing control system for an internal combustion engine is provided. This system includes a sprocket assembly in driven connection with a crankshaft of the engine, a camshaft assembly disposing cams for opening and closing intake- and/or exhaust valves, and a ring gear assembly functioning as a piston slidably disposed between the sprocket assembly and the camshaft assembly for modifying a phase angle relation between the sprocket assembly and the camshaft assembly. The system further includes first and second pressure chambers for exerting fluid pressure on the ring gear assembly to be displaced over a range of first, second, and third positions which correspond to phase angle relations respectively suitable for low, intermediate, and high engine load levels. The ring gear assembly is responsive to fluid pressures in the first and second pressure chambers both below a threshold valve to be arranged at the first position, responsive to elevation in the fluid pressure in the first pressure chamber above the threshold value to be arranged at the second position, and responsive to elevation in the fluid pressures in the first and second pressure chambers both above the threshold value to be arranged at the third position.

The flame retardant composition comprises 2,4,6-tris(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)-1,3,5-triazine that contains 1 to 1000 ppm of a metal species of a water-insoluble polyvalent metal compound selected from the group consisting of oxide, hydroxide, carbonate, phosphate, sulfate and silicate present in the particles of 2,4,6-tris(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)-1,3,5-triazine. The flame retardant composition is produced by reacting an alkali metal salt of 2,4,6-tribromophenol and cyanuric chloride in the presence of said water-insoluble polyvalent metal compound.

A flame retardant composition for rendering flammable plastics flame retardant is provided. The composition comprises a brominated flame retardant, a free-radical generator selected from 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-diphenyl-butane or its homologs, and a phthalocyanine or naphthalocyanine complex with a metal of groups 7 to group 10 of the IUPAC periodic chart. The quantity of the brominated flame retardant may be saved when incorporating into flammable plastic materials in conjunct with the free-radical generator and the phathalocyanine or naphthalocyanine complex of the above type.

A semiconductor thin film structure includes source/drain regions and a channel region positioned between the source/drain regions. The semiconductor thin film structure extends directly on and in contact with a surface of an insulation region. At least one of the source/drain regions includes a semiconductor material region extending directly over and in contact with the surface of the insulation region and a refractory metal silicide layer extending directly on and in contact with the semiconductor material region. The refractory metal silicide layer has a first thickness which is equal to or thicker than a half of a second thickness of the channel region, thereby suppressing any substantive kink effect. The first thickness of the refractory metal silicide layer is also thinner than a third thickness of the source/drain regions, so that at least a majority part of a bottom surface of the refractory metal silicide layer has a junction interface with the semiconductor material region of the source/drain regions, thereby reducing a parasitic resistance of the source and drain regions.

Even if the snapback voltage of the MOSFET fluctuates from place to place in the same MOSFET, the snapback phenomenon tends to occur within the entire drain region almost simultaneously, enabling to improve the ESD breakdown resistance of the protection MOSFET.

A valve timing control system for an internal combustion engine includes a hollow sprocket rotatably supported on a camshaft, and a rotary member housed within the sprocket and rigidly connected to the camshaft for rotation therewith. The rotary member has a pair of radially extending portions, on which a pair of gears are rotatably supported. The sprocket has an internal toothed circumference which is engageable with the gears to cause the gears to rotate in accordance with rotation of the sprocket for causing relative angular displacement of the rotary member to the sprocket. The valve timing control system further includes a pair of stopper pins for regulating relative angular displacement of the intermediate rotary member to the sprocket within a predetermined maximum range, and a clutch mechanism for restricting rotation of the gears. The clutch mechanism is controlled in accordance with a current engine running condition to be associated with the stopper pins for restricting relative angular displacement of the rotary member to the sprocket.
