The invention relates to a magnesium compound effective in producing olefin polymers having an increased bulk density and a narrowed particle size distribution, not lowering the stereospecificity of the polymers produced and not lowering the polymerization activity in producing the polymers, to an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising the compound, and to a method for producing such olefin polymers. The olefin polymerization catalyst comprises (A) a solid catalyst component prepared by contacting a magnesium compound having a specific particle size distribution index (P), a titanium compound and an electron donor compound with each other, (B) an organometallic compound, and (C) an electron donor. The olefin polymerization method comprises polymerizing an olefin in the presence of the catalyst to give olefin polymers.

The present invention provides a catalyst for bulk or vapor-phase polymerization having high polymerization activity during bulk or vapor-phase polymerization and providing an olefin polymer having excellent properties in melt flow rate and stereoregularity by adding a small amount of hydrogen. The catalyst for bulk or vapor-phase polymerization of an &agr;-olefin compound under a presence of hydrogen, the catalyst is made by contacting the following ingredients (A) to (C). A propylene homopolymer or a copolymer of propylene and an &agr;-olefin with at least 4 carbon atoms, which is produced through polymerization in the presence of a metallocene catalyst and which has an increased isotactic pentad fraction and a reduced molecular weight distribution; and also a propylene-based polymer composition as prepared by adding a nucleating agent to the homopolymer or the copolymer are superior to conventional polymers and polymer compositions, as they have well-balanced toughness and heat-sealability, and are not sticky, and, in addition, they have excellent anti-blocking properties. Their films especially those for wrapping and packaging edibles are tough and have excellent anti-blocking properties, and high film impact resistance. The polymer and the polymer composition have good moldability.
