Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for managing service traffic in a communications network capable of providing voice, data, and A/V services to a plurality of customers. In particular, the present invention is a digital subscriber line system (DSL), preferably based on ADSL, having a plurality of customer premise equipment (CPEs) coupled to voice, data and A/V services via network system equipment comprising a DSLAM, an ATM switch and a DSL terminator for connecting the system to the internet. The invention provides a network control system that includes a plurality of databases including a provisioning database and a real time database indicative of the actual bandwidth being utilized. A service control processor coupled to the plurality of databases and the network system equipment periodically polls the databases to determine the amount of bandwidth being used, and if the usage exceeds a predetermined level, throttles the internet data entering the system through the DSL terminator and/or the user data entering the system through the CPEs. Preferrably, throttling is performed using a leaky-bucket algorithm. By dynamically managing the traffic flow in the network, the present invention reduces the potential for dropped calls and similar service restrictions.

Also, a light source is provided having a plurality of LEDs, a cooling body on which the LEDs are mounted, and a connector element and an overall exterior geometry, each of which corresponds to the respective connector element and overall exterior geometry of a conventional reflecting halogen glow lamp having a rated voltage of 12 volts.
Abstract:
A motor/pump assembly for a motor vehicle brake system including a pump and a motor driving the pump, the pump having opposite working diaphragms which are, in each case, mounted between a pump casing and a cover and thereby delimit a space and which can be moved by a crank drive, the space being assigned, in each case, an inlet duct with an inlet valve and an outlet duct with an outlet valve. The outlet ducts are arranged in the covers and in the pump casing such that air displaced out of the spaces is conducted into an inner space surrounding the crank drive of the pump casing and that an air outlet unit be provided, which allows a low-noise blow-out of the air from the inner space as a result of the deflection of the air.
Abstract:
A data transfer network infrastructure device having a plurality of ingress ports for accepting data from a domain of a data network; and, a user interface for enabling a user to limit a rate at which data is accepted from the data network on at least one of the ingress ports, wherein the data transfer rate between the at least one of the ingress ports and a device coupled to the at least one of the ports is limited, whereby a bandwidth limit is implemented by the limit at which the data is accepted into the ingress port.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are disclosed for adapting prioritized QoS data packets such as those used by Ethernet devices with IEEE802.1q priorities to parameterized data packets that can be transmitted over the Isochronous Channel of an IEEE1394, HiperLAN2 or similar network or serial bus with Isochronous Services. An adapter device uses the presence of a priority on a Priority based QoS LAN as an indication to set up an Isochronous Channel on the IEEE1394, HiperLAN2 or similar device for the transfer of a potential stream. When the adapter device sees the priority field and it has determined that to get to the destination device, the next segment is across a LAN with Isochronous services (e.g. IEEE 1394 or HiperLAN2), the adapter sets up an Isochronous channel (if it is the first packet of a flow) to the next device in the stream path and then forwards that packet and any future packet that is marked identically (addresses and priorities) down that Isochronous Channel. The adapter is also configured to convert packets that have been sent over the Isochronous Channel in the manner just described back to prioritized data packets for transmission to an Ethernet or other prioritized QoS device. Another feature of the adapter and method is dynamic adjustment of reserved bandwidth size based on activity within a channel.
Abstract:
An apparatus for extracorporeal blood treatment has a dialysis fluid circuit and a blood circuit which are separated by a dialyzer. Arranged in the dialysis fluid circuit there is a sterile filter for producing a sterile dialysis fluid which flows into the dialyzer. To check the sterile filter, a chemical and/or physical property of the dialysis fluid, for example the conductivity, is changed upstream of the sterile filter, and the change in the property of the dialysis fluid is detected downstream of the sterile filter. From the time shift between the initiation of the conductivity impulse and the detection of the latter, it is possible to tell whether the blood treatment apparatus is fitted with a sterile filter. Moreover, the volume of the sterile filter can be inferred from the length of the time shift.
Abstract:
A light resolution element for a light guiding apparatus is provided that is connectable in optical communication with the light guiding apparatus for guiding and re-orienting light emitted thereto from the light guiding apparatus such that light exiting the light resolution element irradiates a dental restoration piece in a manner which effects complete hardening of the piece. The light resolution element includes a prismatic body operable to guide and re-orient a light beam passed thereto from the light guiding apparatus.

Abstract:
An apparatus for providing reserved connections between end stations, in a network, such as the Internet, capable of providing prioritized communications, comprises a switch in packet communications with end stations. The switch detects and forwards packets that contain prioritized data for priority processing, and packets that include requests for reserved connections according to a given reservation protocol. Output queues associated with egress ports of the switch correspond to different priorities associated with received priority packets. An additional output queue is associated with reserved connection data packets. In response to a reserved connection request, the switch determines if sufficient bandwidth exists in the switch to establish a reserved path within the network, and if so, allocates the and width for the reserved connection. In response to each received packet, the switch determines whether the packet is associated with the reserved connection and forwards those packets to the additional output queue on the egress port associated with the reserved connection path for transport to the intended destination.
