    Abstract: A vehicle system includes an electric motor and one or more of a generator or an alternator coupled with the electric motor and configured to generate electric energy from rotation created by the electric motor. The generator or alternator is configured to power one or more traction motors to propel the vehicle system. The electric motor may replace a fuel engine of the vehicle system.

    Abstract: A ground fault detection system for a power system having a DC link, a battery bank, a link capacitor unit connected to the DC link, and plural power converters connected to the DC link. The power converters convert first DC power from the DC link to at least one of AC power or second DC power for powering at least one electrical load. A control unit disconnects the battery bank from the DC link responsive to detection of a ground fault, to deactivate operation of the power converters, and to sequentially at least partially activate, with power from the link capacitor unit, each of the power converters individually until a sensed voltage signal of the DC link is indicative of the ground fault being associated with one of the power converters.

    Abstract: A method for operating a collector assembly of a vehicle that receives electric current from a conductive pathway extending along a route being traversed by the vehicle to power loads of the vehicle. The method includes moving the collector assembly relative to the conductive pathway to examine one or more mechanical components of the collector assembly and sensing one or more electrical characteristics of the electric current conducted to the vehicle from the conductive pathway and through the collector assembly to test electrical components of the collector assembly or the vehicle.     Abstract: An energy system for a vehicle system having a plurality of motors that may include a first power supply assembly that may also include a first battery assembly of a plurality of battery assemblies. The first power supply assembly also may include a first bus coupled to a first motor of the plurality of motors and coupled to the first battery assembly. A second power supply assembly may also be provided that includes a second battery assembly of the plurality of battery assemblies coupled to a second bus that is coupled to a second motor of the plurality of motors. A controller may also be provided that may be configured to vary conduction of electric current from the first battery assembly to the first motor by the first bus based on an operating condition of the second power supply assembly to provide a first input to the first motor that may be different than a second input provided to the second motor by the second battery assembly.

    Abstract: A vehicle power supply system and method may include plural vehicle contacts extending along a vehicle. At least three of the vehicle contacts may be power contacts that receive different phases of three-phase alternating current electrical power from an off-board power supply system to power the vehicle.     Abstract: A battery control system and method selectively connect battery strings to one or more conductive buses by plural electrically controllable switches. The switches are controlled to one or more of (a) connect the strings with one or more of the load or the power source via the one or more conductive buses in a first sequence and/or (b) disconnect the strings from one or more of the load or the power source via the one or more conductive buses in a second sequence. The first sequence and the second sequence are based on one or more of states of charge between the strings, different charge capacities between the strings, different electric currents conducted through the strings, different polarities of the electric currents conducted through the strings, and/or a speed of a vehicle that is powered by the one or more loads.
