    摘要: A device for fusing and fixing electrophotographic toner powder to a receiver sheet and a method for using the same. The device comprises a first fusing member, such as a fusing roll, having a resilient surface for pressure contact with thermoplastic toner on the receiver sheet. A second member, which can be a non-resilient pressure roll, presses the toner into contact with the resilient surface. The device also is designed to heat the toner. The fusing member has a layer of an elastomeric, amorphous silarylene-siloxane alternating or random copolymer which is thermally stable, has good wear resistance, and good thermal conductivity and exhibits little or no swelling when contacted with poly(dimethylsiloxane) release oils.

    摘要: Development systems and methods for developing using toner are disclosed. The present invention further discloses developers used in development systems. With respect to the development system, a development system is disclosed which includes a supply of dry developer mixture which contains toner particles and hard magnetic carrier particles. The development system further includes a non-magnetic, cylindrical shell for transporting the developer between the supply and the development zone, wherein the shell can be rotatable or stationary. A rotating magnetic core of a pre-selected magnetic field strength and means for rotating at least the magnetic core to provide for the transport of the toner particles from the shell to an electrostatic image also provided as part of the development system. The development system of the present invention further includes a fuser roll which is coated with a silicone rubber or other low surface energy elastomer or resin. The fuser roll is preferably in a pressure contact arrangement with a backup or pressure roll. The images resulting from the development system of the present invention have an excellent combination of properties, in particular, the prints resulting from the development process of the present invention have improved image quality in combination with excellent fusing quality. A method for developing electrostatic images with toner is further disclosed, for example, involving the above-described development system.

The method includes forming an electrostatic image on a primary image member and toning the image with a dry toner to form a toner image. The transfer assisting particles have a diameter of between 20 and 100 nm. The toner image is transferred from the primary image member to an intermediate image member having an overcoat layer, the overcoat layer having a Young's modulus of from 250 to 500 MPa. The toner image is transferred from the intermediate image member to a receiving sheet wherein the intermediate image member drives the primary image member or the receiving sheet.

    摘要: In an electrostatographic process and apparatus a replenishment device adds toner particles to a development station that includes a developer comprising a mixture of toner particles and carrier particles. A reference parameter that is used in control of aim point of toner concentration in the mixture is set to an initial value until about a midlife of the developer is reached. Once the midlife of the developer is reached there are provided programmed step adjustments in the reference value in accordance with further increases in life of the developer to thereby control replenishment of toner particles so that control of charge to mass of the toner particles in the mixture is provided to reduce a tendency of dusting by the toner particles of the mixture due to age of the developer.

    摘要: The invention provides rolls, belts and other biasable members having at least one layer or coating of an elastomeric resilient crosslinked polyurethane formed by reacting (a) a polyisocyanate prepolymer comprising the reaction product of an aliphatic polyisocyanate and a polyether polyol, specifically a polyalkylene glycol in which the alkylene group contains 2 to 3 carbon atoms, and (b) a hardening mixture comprising a polyether polyol of (a) and, as a conductivity control agent, from 0.01 to 3.0 weight percent based on the total weight of (b) of a complex of an oligoethylene glycol selected from the group consisting of di-, tri- and tetraethylene glycol with an ionizable alkali metal salt selected from the group consisting of sodium iodide, lithium iodide and sodium thiocyanate.The resistivity of the elastomeric resilient polyurethane coating on the biasable member is controlled or adjusted to within a desired level of resistivity due to the inclusion of the conductivity control agent in the crosslinked polyurethane elastomer. Additionally, the inclusion of the conductivity control agent in the crosslinked polyurethane elastomer reduces the sensitivity of the resistivity of the polyurethane coating on the biasable member to changes in relative humidity. Further, since the conductivity control agent is copolymerized with the polyisocyanate prepolymers and polyols used to make the elastomeric polyurethane coatings of the biasable members of the invention, the conductivity control agent is bonded covalently to the backbone and/or the crosslinking portion of the polyurethane elastomer where it forms a permanently fixed part of the crosslinked polymer and will not migrate therefrom resulting in a continuous change in the resistivity of the polyurethane coating over time and possible adverse affects on materials that may come into contact with the migrating agent. The utility of such biasable members is in the transfer of toner images from a photoconductor to a final support sheet where the member, for example, a bias transfer roll, electrically cooperates with a photoconductor to establish a directional force field therebetween.
