As a result, even when an amount of light per unit area of high luminance is increased, the liquid crystal panels and the polarizing plates and the PBS can be effectively cooled by three sets of the fans.

In a projection image display apparatus, a noise removal filter portion 15 is separated from a power source unit body 14. The separated noise removal filter portion 15 is provided in the vicinity of a side wall of a housing on which a power source inlet is provided, and of the power source unit body 14, respectively. Specifically, the power source unit body 14 is provided along a side wall of a front face of the horizontally-long housing of the projection image display apparatus and the noise removal filter portion 15 is provided in a position opposed to the power source unit body 14 in a side wall of the back face. As a result, even when a light source lamp has a higher output, the projection image display apparatus can achieve reduced noise by an improved cooling capability and reduced cost enabled by an efficient Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) measure and the like.

An end of the exhaust fan facing the other exhaust fan is moved to the inner side and the one exhaust fan is inclined to discharge air in an exhaust direction toward a direction along which air is discharged from the other exhaust fan. There is provided a cooling fan that blows air to an interior air blow outlet communicating with the interior of the light source lamp and exterior air blow outlets communicating with an outer surface to cool the light source lamp. The exterior air blow outlets are deviated from the center of the outer surface of the light source lamp.

The present invention provides the complete genomic sequence of a novel human coronavirus, coined as coronavirus-HKU1 (“CoV-HKU1”), isolated in Hong Kong from a patient who had a recent history of visit to Schenzhen, China. The virus belongs to the order Nidovirales of the family Coronaviridae, being a single-stranded RNA virus of positive polarity. The invention also provides the deduced amino acid sequences of the complete genome of the CoV-HKU1. The nucleotide sequences and deduced amino acid sequences of the CoV-HKU1 are useful in preventing, diagnosing and/or treating the infection by CoV-HKU1. Furthermore, the invention provides immunogenic and vaccine preparations using recombinant and chimeric forms as well as subunits of the CoV-HKU1 based on the nucleotide sequences and deduced amino acid sequences of the CoV-HKU1.

The present invention provides methods for locating critical portions or sites on the spike protein (S protein) of SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV) responsible for the viral infection that causes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The present invention also provides new synthetic peptides targeting such critical portions or sites of the S protein of SARS-CoV for preventing or treating of SARS-CoV infection in a subject. The present invention further provides methods of testing antiviral activity exerted by antiviral agents using real-time quantitative PCR.

The present invention relates to a diagnostic assay for the virus causing Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in humans (“hSARS virus”). In particular, the invention relates to a real-time quantitative PCR assay for the detection of hSARS virus using reverse transcription and polymerase chain reaction. Specifically, the quantitative assay is a TaqMan® assay using the primers and probes constructed based on the genome of the hSARS virus. The invention further relates to a diagnostic kit that comprises nucleic acid molecules for the detection of the hSARS virus.

The present invention relates to therapeutic agents useful for the treatment of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in humans. In particular, the present invention relates to RNA interference (RNAi) molecules useful for inhibiting the infection and replication of hSARS virus. Preferably, the RNAi molecules target the replicase region of the hSARS virus, or combinations of different sites of hSARS virus genes. The present invention further encompasses methods of using the RNAi molecules for preventing and/or treating SARS. Vaccines and kits comprising therapeutically effective amounts of the RNAi molecules are also encompassed.

The present invention relates to an isolated novel virus causing Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in humans (“hSARS virus”). The hSARS virus is identified to be morphologically and phylogenetically similar to known member of Coronaviridae. The present invention provides the complete genomic sequence of the hSARS virus. Furthermore, the invention provides the nucleic acids and peptides encoded by and/or derived from the hSARS virus and their use in diagnostic methods and therapeutic methods, including vaccines. In addition, the invention provides chimeric or recombinant viruses encoded by said nucleotide sequences and antibodies immunospecific to the polypeptides encoded by the nucleotide sequences.
