摘要:
A fiber glass board useful as a form board for lightweight cement and the like is strengthened by providing for the fibers to be predominantly oriented generally parallel to the major faces of the board in directions both parallel to and transversely of the dimension of the board corresponding to the process direction. A downstream conveyor which moves the blanket of fibers through the curing oven moves faster than the collection conveyor, thereby producing a drawing effect on the blanket and causing the desired fiber alignment. A glass fiber mat is applied to one or both major faces of the blanket prior to movement through the oven to provide additional stiffness to the board.

A free flowing thermal insulation which may be installed by auger feeding, blowing or pouring is disclosed. Granular material having a requisite K value (e.g., 0.20-0.315 BTU-in/.degree.F-ft.sup.2 -hr) is a major component of the insulation and is thoroughly mixed with a minor component of fibrous thermal insulating material to form a mixture which is used to provide the thermal insulation. Also included in the thermal insulation is a dust suppressant in quantities as required.

A ceiling insulation system for commercial buildings. The present invention provides an attractive ceiling panel system with a functional insulation and water vapor barrier system with an insulating R-value of 44 and a perm rating of 0.4. A hat-shaped channel is suspendable from bar joist, steel purlin, or wood joist by using one of three different suspension fasteners. A C-shaped clamp with locking ring, a cylindrical rod and two spring clamps complete the suspension subassembly. Channel junction clips and board edge clamps are used to insure the integrity of the system and enable a high insulation value and a low perm value.

The present invention relates to a glass fiber binding composition having an effective binding amount of an aqueous compatible furan resin mixed with sufficient water to result in a binding composition having from 0.5 to 80% nonvolatile. The aqueous compatible furan resin is the reaction product of a source of ammonia and a first reaction product, the first reaction product being derived from the reaction of an acidic furan resin, a source of reactable formaldehyde, and a formaldehyde scavenger. The invention further pertains to a process of binding glass fibers at junctions of the fibers comprising the steps of providing glass fibers, applying an effect binding amount of the binding composition of the invention to the glass fibers such that the binder is present at a portion of the junctions, and curing the resin at the junctions of the glass fibers. Finally, the invention also discloses glass fiber compositions comprising a plurality of glass fibers having a plurality of junctions where two or more fibers meet, and an effective binding amount of the binding composition of the invention.

Inorganic fibers which have a silicon extraction of greater than about 0.02 wt % Si/day in physiological saline solutions. The fiber contains SiO.sub.2, MgO, CaO, and at least one of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, ZrO.sub.2, TiO.sub.2, B.sub.2 O.sub.3, iron oxides, or mixtures thereof. Also disclosed are inorganic fibers which have diameters of less than 3.5 microns and which pass the ASTM E-119 two hour fire test when processed into a fiber blanket having a bulk density in the range of about 1.5 to 3 pcf.

The present invention relates to a glass fiber binding composition comprising an effective binding amount of an aqueous soluble furan resin, 15 to 99 percent by weight water, and an effective amount of a catalyst for curing the furan resin. The invention further pertains to a process of binding glass fibers at junctions of the fibers comprising the steps of providing newly formed glass fibers, applying an effect binding amount of an aqueous soluble furan resin to the junctions of the glass fibers, and curing the resin at the junctions of the glass fibers. Finally, the invention also discloses a glass fiber composition comprising a plurality of glass fibers having a plurality of junctions where two or more fibers meet, and an effective binding amount of an aqueous soluble furan resin comprising 15 to 99% water applied to the junctions of the glass fibers.
