A catalyst component formed by the steps of contacting a transition metal-containing metallocene of a transition metal of Group 4, 5 or 6 of the Periodic Table of the Elements with silica or an organic support. This product is contacted with an organomagnesium compound or complex followed by contact with an alcohol and a silane. Finally, the so-contacted product is contacted with a Group 4, 5 or. 6 transition metal-containing non-metallocene compound. The component is preferably combined with an aluminum-containing cocatalyst to form a catalyst system.

In this application propylene is polymerized under propylene polymerization conditions in the presence of a first co-catalyst, an aluminum-containing compound, and a second co-catalyst, a slane.

A supported polymerization catalyst component and a catalyst system useful in the production of polyolefin resins that have a narrow particle size distribution and enhanced crystallization rates is provided. The supported polymerization component comprises talc, an organomagnesium compound or complex, wherein the weight ratio of talc to magnesium in the organomagnesium compound or complex is from about 1000:1 to about 5:1, at least one transition metal containing compound and/or a metallocene effective in alpha-olefin polymerization reactions, and, optionally, an alcohol or a silane. The catalyst system of the instant invention includes the aforementioned alpha-olefin polymerization catalyst component and at least one aluminum-containing cocatalyst compound. A process for polymerizing or copolymerizing alpha-olefins, conducted under olefin polymerization conditions utilizing the inventive catalyst system of this invention is also described.

The present invention relates to a process to in-situ reactor-fill polyolefins. More specifically, the instant invention provides a process to reactor-fill polyolefins comprising the steps of (a) adding a sufficient amount of alpha-olefin to a filler prior to using the filler for in-situ polymerization; (b) prepolymerizing the mixture of step (a) by contacting the treated filler in random order of no specific sequence with a high activity polymerization catalyst, a cocatalyst, and, if necessary a cocatalyst modifier; and (c) adding an alpha-olefin under olefin polymerization reaction conditions to the reaction product of step (b) to form a reactor-filled composite. The prepolymerization step results in the formation of a sticky prepolymer on the surface and in the pores of the filler.The present invention further relates to reactor-filled polyolefin composites obtained from the process of the present invention. The reactor-filled polyolefin composites produced by the instant invention are characterized as containing low levels of fines and having a relatively uniform distribution of filler material dispensed throughout the composite matrix.

The present invention relates to a method to reactor-fill polyolefins and to reactor-filled composites obtained from the instant method. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method to reactor-fill polyolefins comprising the steps of (a) adding a catalytic amount of a low activity catalyst to a filler material either during or before polymerization to initiate the formation of atactic polyolefin on the surface and in the pores of the filler; (b) contacting the product of step (a) in no specific order with a high activity catalyst, a cocatalyst, and, if necessary a cocatalyst modifier; and (c) adding an alpha-olefin under olefin polymerization reaction conditions to the reaction product of step (b) to form a reactor-filled composite. The addition of the low activity catalyst to the filler material causes compatibilization of the filler with the matrix polymer, reduced fines, rounded aggregate particles and increased catalyst activity over an un-filled polymerization catalyst system or by that afforded by the elimination of the low activity catalyst obtained from the method of the present invention. The reactor-filled polyolefin composites produced by the instant invention are characterized as having a relatively uniform distribution of filler particles dispensed therein and having improved physical and rheological properties compared to prior art reactor-filled composites.
