When the paper type is recognized as coated paper on the basis of a signal from paper type input means or the like, control means controls a master-making energy supplied to a thermal head serving as master-making means, to be larger than a master-making energy supplied in the case of uncoated paper. The paper onto which an ink image corresponding to the characteristics of coated paper has been transferred is then fed into the UV irradiation device, where the ink is dried and cured.

A stencil printer includes an ink drum having a hollow cylindrical porous support and a pair of flanges supporting opposite ends of the support. Annular elastic members are respectively affixed between the inner periphery of the porous support and the outer circumferences of the flanges. When the ink drum is pressed against a press roller, the elastic members deform and cause an ink roller disposed in the ink drum to be displaced. As a result, the ink roller contacts the inner periphery of the porous support brought into contact with and positioned by the press roller. The ink roller and the inner periphery of the ink drum can therefore contact each other under uniform pressure without the rigidity of the drum being reduced and without any shaking.

A controller automatically selects, among transport conditions stored beforehand in correspondence to the kinds of papers, optimal transport conditions matching with the kind of papers input by the operator in response to a signal received from the kind-of-paper setting device. The operator should only select and input the kind of papers while watching an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) provided on an operation panel. The printer obviates troubles relating to the transport of papers.

As a solenoid is energized, the stopper pins are accommodated into the circular holes. The solenoid is operated by means of a stopper switch, and the solenoid in an energized state allows each combination socket to be fitted over a corresponding wheel-mounting nut. With the combination sockets fitted over all of the wheel-mounting nuts, the operation of the stopper switch causes the stopper pins to move to a projected position to prevent rotation of the reaction-force receiving cam plates, so that high torque is imparted to transmission shafts, allowing four wheel-mounting nuts to be simultaneously tightened or loosened.
