Moreover, diagnosis and treatment are achieved using a single light source. Concurrent diagnosis during treatment is realized as well. A semiconductor laser generates laser light having an oscillating wavelength which is variable and a full width at half maximum which is narrow. A light transmission line guides an irradiated laser light the vicinity of a focus, an image transmission line observes the focus and the periphery thereof, a fluorescence light extracting device extracts only the fluorescence light emitted from a photosensitizer excited by the irradiated laser light, an image-pick-up/analyzing device picks up and analyzes an image of the extracted fluorescence light and an image display device displays the analyzing result.

A medical laser probe to be used as a laser irradiation unit in laser treatment that is performed by irradiating a living body with laser light. The laser probe irradiates laser light uniformly, utilizing laser light effectively by concentration thereof, achieving limited irradiation of laser light and taking countermeasures against stains forming on the probe. The laser probe is provided with (1) a transparent light diffuser for radiating laser light received by a light-guide fiber in the direction along the longitudinal axis of the light diffuser and in radial directions from this axis to the peripheral side surface thereof and (2) a detachable protective diffusion tube for further diffusing laser light radiated from the transparent light diffuser. A reflector may be provided between the light diffuser and the diffusion tube. Further, shielding plates may be provided on the protective diffusion tube.

Disclosed is a phototherapy device which can irradiate an affected part, which is to be irradiated with light, with light selectively and intensively and can prevent eyes to undergo the direct irradiation with intense light emitted from a light source. Specifically disclosed is a phototherapy device comprising: a light guide member which has a contact surface that contacts with an affected part and an opposed surface that faces the contact surface and which serves as a light guide path; and a first light source which can emit light having the main wavelength that depends on the wavelength range of infrared ray to the light guide path. In the phototherapy device, a material constituting the light guide member has a refractive index identical to or higher than the refractive index of a biological tissue.
