In one aspect, a method includes receiving a signal, including a reference signal, transmitted from the node during a predetermined time period, measuring signal reception information, including reference signal power values, at predetermined time intervals during the predetermined time period, measuring speeds of movement of the mobile device at the predetermined time intervals, determining a reference signal power variation value based on the variability of the measured reference signal power values, comparing the determined reference signal power variation value with a predetermined power threshold value for a given measured speed, determining cell information based on the comparison, determining an adjustment to a resource management procedure based on the determined cell information, and adjusting the resource management procedure based on the determined adjustment.

In one aspect, a method for adjusting radio resource management procedures in a mobile device communicating with a node operating in a cell in a heterogeneous communication network includes transmitting a first message to the node, the first message including a request for cell information, receiving a second message transmitted from the node, the second message including the requested cell information, measuring signal reception information, processing the received cell information and measured signal reception information to determine an adjustment to a radio resource management procedure, and adjusting the radio resource management procedure based on the determined adjustment. The first and second messages may be radio resource control (RRC) messages, such as RRC connection request and response messages.

The method for use in the node comprises detecting activity of the second system in the second frequency band and adjusting the bandwidth used by the node for communication, based on characteristics of the detected current activity of the second system in the second frequency band, such that interference to the second frequency band, from radio communication associated with the node, is adapted to the second system activity in said second frequency band. The method further comprises providing information of said adjustment to at least one mobile terminal. Further, information of said adjustment could be provided to neighboring nodes.
