    摘要: A multi-tone modem with components forming a transmit path and a receive path configured to couple to a wired communication medium for at least intermittent communication of frequency division multiplexed multi-tone modulated communication channels thereon. A Fourier transform component transforms received communication channels between a time domain and a frequency domain and vice-versa. Selected components on the receive path determine alignments between the received multiplexed communication channels in the time domain using alignment determinations made in both a time domain and frequency domain portions of the receive path. The Fourier transform component transforms a stream of digitized samples of the received multiplexed communication channels from the time to the frequency domain using the alignment determinations made by the selected components on the receive path. In another embodiment of the invention the multi-tone modem includes a scheduler which optimizes bandwidth allocation on the wired communication medium.

The modem includes a multi-tone modulator component and a configurable frequency up converter component. The multi-tone modulator component is configured for multi-tone modulation and demodulation of a transmitted and received communication channel at a base band frequency range. The configurable frequency up converter component is coupled to the multi-tone modulator to selectably up convert the frequency range of the transmitted base band signal from the multi-tone modulator to that of a selected communication band and down convert received signals from the selected communication band to the base band for demodulation by the multi-tone modulator.

    摘要: A transceiver with a plurality of components coupled to one another to form a transmit path and a receive path for multi-tone modulation of user data across a communication medium. The transceiver includes a framer and a deframer. The framer is configured to momentarily suspend framing of user data before processing bits associated with tones targeted for reference data transport and injects the pre-agreed reference pattern therein, after which framing of user data resumes.     摘要: A method and apparatus for time and frequency domain forward error correction (FEC) in a modem which communicates data using multiple discrete sub-channels is provided. The invention may be implemented in hardware, software or firmware. In an embodiment of the invention a modem with a plurality of components forming a transmit path and a receive path is disclosed. The modem communicates data across a wired or wireless communication medium using a multiplicity of discrete sub-channels. The modem includes a transform component and a time domain FEC component. The transform component transforms the multiplicity of discrete sub-channels of a communication between a time domain and a frequency domain on the receive path and vice-versa on the transmit path. The time domain FEC component couples to the transform component. The time domain FEC component has a complementary encoder and decoder portion on the transmit and receive paths respectively. The encoder and decoder portions encode and decode respectively the multiplicity of discrete sub-channels in the time domain.

    摘要: An apparatus for precoding multi-tone modulated transmissions of a plurality of communication channels over bundled subscriber lines. The apparatus includes a pseudo symbol controller and a precoder. The pseudo symbol controller detects a victim communication channel and an interferer communication channel having non-matching symbol rates, and transforms the interferor channel into a pseudo-symbol having both a substantially similar length as a corresponding symbol of the victim channel together with defined tonal characteristics expressed in terms of the interferor channel. The precoder assigns crosstalk coefficients to selected sub-channels or tones of the pseudo symbol and precodes the victim channel with the pseudo symbol using the crosstalk coefficients; thereby generating a precoded victim symbol which exhibits reduced crosstalk between the selected victim and interferor.

    摘要: The present invention advantageously provides a method and apparatus for optimization of channel capacity in multi-line multi-tone communications such as X-DSL among subscriber lines which are bundled with one another. In an embodiment of the invention an apparatus for optimizing channel capacity of multi-tone communications effected by opposing sets of modems coupled to one another by a plurality of subscriber lines is disclosed. The apparatus includes a spectrum manager coupled to at least one of the opposing sets of modems. The spectrum manager includes: a profiler, a demand module and an optimizer. The profiler obtains from the at least one of the opposing sets of modems the spectral characteristics of each of the plurality of subscriber lines. The demand module determines for each of the plurality of subscriber lines the subscriber demand profile. The optimizer defines target parameters for at least one of bit loading, and power spectral density (PSD) for selected tones of the multi-tone communications based on the spectral characteristics from the profile module and the demand profiles from the demand module and downloads the target parameters to the at least one of the opposing sets of modems.
