Further, higher harmonic components of the first optical grating are utilized, whereby the pitch of the second optical grating is set at substantially (u+v) Q/u or (u+v) Q/(2u) (Q=P/m, and m is a whole number of 2 or more), thereby preventing the pitch of the second optical grating from being divided into small ones.

A digital indication type length measuring system includes a length measuring device having a spindle which can be brought into abutting contact with a work to be measured, an encoder for representing a displacement of the spindle as an electric signal, and an output circuit for outputting measured length information data obtained from the electric signal from the encoder to a cable. A data processing device includes an input circuit coupled to the cable for receiving data from the length measuring device, a processing circuit for processing data received by the input circuit in a predetermined manner to produce quality control data, and a printer for printing out the quality control data. The quality control data includes a histogram. When the length measuring and data processing devices are disconnected from each other, each measured length is displayed on a digital indicator which is provided on the length measuring device and which is repsonsive to the electric signal from the encoder.

A moving path of the robot mechanism is preset, and, when a command to carry out a predetermined measuring program is given from a data processing unit, the robot mechanism is moved in accordance with the moving path, and a measured result is calculated to seek a dimension of the work, on the basis of measured data given through an abutting contact between the probe and the work.

A photoelectric type displacement detecting apparatus, such as a digital display dial gauge micrometer, with an improved frequency response, comprising optical lattice means, light emitting means for irradiating the optical lattice means with a detecting light, light receiving means for receiving a transmission or reflective light from the optical lattice means, and a detection circuit for generating an output signal indicative of relative movement in the lattice. The frequency characteristic of a phototransistor adapted in the light receiving means depends on the input impedance of a base-grounded transistor to maintain the current supplied to the light emitting means constant and to improve the frequency response in the detection apparatus.

In this measuring instrument, one of supports is supported by one of guide rails in a manner to be positionally adjustable in direction of X- and Z-axes and the other of the supports is supported in a manner to be displaceable only in a direction of one of the guide rails. A slider guide rail racked across the supports can be adjusted in its posture in the direction of X- and Z-axes by a posture adjusting mechanism provided on connecting portions between the slider rail and the supports. The slider guide rail thus adjusted in posture in non-displaceable in the moving direction of a slider in a state where adjustment members provided on the slider guide rail are closely abutted against abutting surfaces of the supports.

The link member is interposed between a switch portion for effecting the electrical connection or disconnection and the control button, which control button is provided in a side wall of a case body disposed for movement in a direction perpendicular to the working direction of the switch portion, and, when the link member is pivoted by movement of the control button, the electrical connection or disconnection can be effected.
