Abstract: A sample carrier for assaying can include a plurality of pins having a surface that is capable of picking up at least one substance on the surface. The pins can be arranged such that one or more of the plurality of pins are introduced into a corresponding reaction vessel of a microplate. The sample carrier can be divided into a plurality of modules, with each of the plurality of modules comprising one or more pins of the plurality of pins. Methods of use include placing the sample carrier onto a microplate so that at least the one or more of the plurality of pins extend into the corresponding reaction vessel of the microplate.

Abstract: A tube for sample collection and sample processing in a tube rack includes an upper section, an intermediate section, and a lower section. The intermediate section connects the upper section and the lower section of the tube, and an inner diameter of the intermediate section can decrease from top to bottom. A fastening means can fix the tube in a tube rack. The tube can include a pierceable tube cap sealing the tube, and the tube rack can be configured such that the tube may be pulled off the tube cap by a centrifugation force. The tube can include a volume of density gradient medium covered by a separating gel to enhance sample separation.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the result of an agglutination reaction and a microplate used in such a method. Agglutinated and non-agglutinated sample material is separated by means of a separation material such as gel material or a bead matrix in a centrifugation step. Whether an agglutination reaction took place or not is determined by comparing the color intensities and/or the gray levels of images of the top side and the bottom side of the respective reaction vessel. Comparing the color intensities and/or the gray levels of the two images makes the automatic determination reliable and stable. Furthermore, the reaction wells are arranged in a two-dimensional array which provides a high throughput.
